Hurricanes @ Leafs - Dec. 23rd, 2:00pm - SNO, Fan 590

I've warmed to the idea of moving either Johnsson or Kapanen.

Now that Kapanen's not really getting PK duty, it feels like he's expendable. He has great wheels and a good shot, but his instincts/decision making are keeping him from being a reliable top 6 winger. The positives he does bring, along with the pedigree of being a 1st round pick, the son of a successful NHLer, etc., probably make him the more valuable trade chip, without much differentiating him from Johnsson in terms of on-ice value, so he'd be the guy I'd be looking at moving.

F you Zee!  Just kidding.

Lol as if I wanted them to lose or something. Man this win was huge. Against a good team and the Leafs playing tired yet they still managed to extend the win streak to 5 games.

So Carolina scored 3 goals in 64 seconds, then the Leafs bettered it by scoring 3 goals in 59 seconds. That's madness.

Fully agree. The PK looks better with him playing less - his speed is always a threat but he seems to get confused in coverage a lot. He's never going to play ahead of Marner or Nylander. Doesn't seem able to mesh  with anyone playing LW. If he can be used to improve the d and/or backup goalie, it's something they should consider.

I do like him and he is one of the few Leafs who will throw the body and get involved in scrums, so I'd miss that.

Carolina can blame Sportsnet for that "Carolina is 15-0 when leading after 2 and Leafs haven't won when trailing after 2"
And they started the game saying how red hot Reimer had been.  Yes keep the comments coming.

Not disagreeing with your assessment but I'm moving Johnsson. I think he may be worth more. Bigger cap hit, is older, has somewhat underachieved this year. Leafs haven't missed him at all. I think Kappy works just fine with Kerfoot. As for the pk, you can't have too many and he was out there killing that last penalty in the 3rd. I also think with Johnsson being a lefty he could be replaced by Engvall Mikheyev or even Bracco on the 1st line. Maybe it's Willy that eventually goes, or just CC lol.

Well that was a nice Christmas present.

A few observations....when you see Keefe mix up the lines and continue to throw them out when whomever it is who's hot
is bloody refreshing vs Babcock.

Kapi to me is the one who is gonna go simply because (besides dollars duh) he's just seemed to have disappeared. This is partly due
to the Leafs use of him (off-wing) and he just hasn't adjusted. I've heard and read there would be a lot of interest in him so that's
might bode well. Johnsson I'm not sure of vs Kapi. I think I'm ok with either one.

One of the first games in memory where 2 forwards for the Leafs lead the team in ice time. Matthews and Marner were magic in the 3rd.

Always noted that and it was one of my biggest beefs about Babcock, both regular season & in the playoffs.

Keefe is far more of a flexible type not afraid to mix it up a bit there.

Agree on the Babs assessment. I think we can all agree, if we're moving a forward, one of Johnsson or Kappy look like the ones to be moved. Personally I'd move CC and keep both!

I hope azzuri is enjoying his afternoon as much as we are.

My afternoon has been fine.
So for all those saying they were tired, blaming the schedule how do you explain the 3rd period?
Glad for the comeback after giving up the 3 goal lead.
To boot I had them to win by 2 in my sports picks so perfect ending to the game.

The 3rd period was Matthews and Marner refusing to lose.

They dug deep and pulled it out.  Fatigue was still a factor in this one, Leafs were skating in cement most of the 2nd.

Some people are saying the best comeback in Toronto over the last 24 hours are the reputations of Shapiro and Atkins.  8)
