Bozak is really starting to piss me off, so often in the d zone it looks like lack of effort as much as a lack of understanding.

Romanuk observed that Babs has semi-benched him in the 3rd.

Romanuk is wrong.

The team defence is no different than last year. Didn't address it and haven't till now. If the guys don't want to tighten up sit them on the bench or in the stands and bring someone else up. Thank god I'm not watching it sure it would be frustrating me. How's Andersen been I know I haven't been happy with his play this year. Another weak night?

Over-relying on long passes. Too many reactionary plays with the puck. No gap control to speak of. Blown coverage everywhere. A lot of things need to be sorted out before this team can really consider themselves a contender.

He can't be.  He has a microphone.

Well we are screwed if we are wanting Anderson to win us game. He is completely awful and not dependable IMO.

this game was awful from start to finish.

On another note the penalty on Kadri was complete shit

Andersen isn?t the problem, he?s not been great but the team is cheating for offense constantly and when the opposition are quick enough to press them they are a nightmare in their own zone.

It seemed like the Canes had 10+ unencumbered shots from inside the faceoff dots.

I?m sure Freddie wants a few back, but it?s hard to blame him when the team is constantly having him face high danger scoring chances against.

Meh, what games like this teach us is simply not to get too starry-eyed.  This team is highly unlikely to go real deep in the playoffs let alone challenge for a Cup -- they haven't even won a playoff series yet.  Doughty is quite right (not that he was voicing any kind of real original insight) -- for now at least.

I think Nik is right.  The Leafs making the playoffs last year was probably not a good thing.

Eh. Too soon to say.

Fans can get as excited as they'd like, but, as long as the management doesn't do anything stupid like hold onto guys that won't be around and screw the team's development or longterm fortunes, where's the harm?

In fact, making the playoffs actually showed us just what is wrong with the Leafs.  As mr grieves mentioned, it's up to management to fix whatever ails the team.

Just because the Leafs made the playoffs doesn't mean they are such a good team or have everything they need to be a true contender.  By making the playoffs, we saw they're shortcomings, still prevalent today as they were last Spring.

Before we all go around blaming Andersen, which we shouldn't do, this game was a classic example of forgotten defence, sheer inconsistencies, and a penchant for the Leafs to start off sluggish, which is beginning to seem like a trend again.

?We?ve got to play with more pride,? said Andersen, who faced 38 shots. ?We have to learn how to win 2-1 games. We have done that before, but we have to be able to do it more often."

"We got outworked for pretty much all game,? said Andersen. ?I think we could have been better at getting it out of our zone. They were pressing and we weren?t quick enough.

?That?s how it goes when you play like that,? added Andersen. ?I?m surprised we got out-battled like that..?

?Frustration is a waste of time,? said Babcock. ?Disappointed it is for me. We were no good. They deserved to win. We didn?t deserve to win. We didn?t work. They worked. They were organized. We were unorganized.

I can't speak for Nik but...

Wait, yes I can!

Me saying that was based on the fact that I thought/think making the playoffs was probably what's going to cause the team to do things that aren't ultimately in their best long term interests because they think they're closer than they are. So effectively what you're saying here is "aside from the potential harm, where's the harm?"

This was evident in the 2012(?) team as well.

Me, 6 and a half minutes ago: Man, this thread is super negative, I'm sure that we didn't play THAT badly come on...

*watches the Game in 6*

Me: Nevermind
