Idiocracy

As someone who grew up in the cold war, the phrase that keeps running through my head is "oh how the mighty are fallen." It makes Trump's recent executive order about requires that schools teach "American exceptionalism" and utter joke. Talk about hypocrisy...

It makes my head spin that the US election will be even remotely close.

They're changing the debate format in response to Trump's behaviour. Pretty much the political equivalent to the swift implementation of the Sean Avery Rule.

Agreed Wallace was terrible, but Trump is a junk yard dog or rabid snapping turtle. Poor Joe looked befuddled.

Joe held up fine considering the shit show and I think all the polls are showing that Trump did nothing to win over the voters he needs to win, because being a snapping turtle/rabid junk yard dog is only going to resonate with only so many voters - the ones he already has.

The problem, though, is that I saw a bunch of interviews of supposedly undecided voters after the "debate", and it seemed like none of them had been persuaded by Trump's behavior (nor by Biden's performance, or the tax revelations). If a whole bunch of those people wind up not voting, we are in trouble.
I don't think so. I mean, if Biden keeps his lead, which is really durable thus far he wins by default. Remember, Trump is losing and losing in a bigger fashion than what the polls said in 16.

I worry that a very large percentage of the "undecided" are more likely Trump voters that don't want to admit it.

That may be but from what I'm reading there seems to be a lot less people saying they're "undecided" than there was in 2016. In fact, I'm reading some things that say that even GOP pollsters, who are operating under the assumption of a bigger Trump base than is reported, are seeing their polls go for Biden.

But I don't think we should kid ourselves. 538 has it at 78-22 for Biden percentage wise so we're still dealing with a roughly 1 in 4 chance Trump wins again. That's why it's so important for people to keep working towards a Biden victory regardless.

Oh yeah 100%. I don't think any democrat is going to sit back this time around after what happened in 16. There's still time to close the undecided gap, and if the undecideds ends up becoming a stalemate I think all things being equal that is a net win.

Polling also doesn't really take into account any shenanigans that might/probably will be pulled in regards to the mail in ballots too.

Regardless of what the polls say...I won't be able to relax until I see Biden being sworn in. Wouldn't mind seeing Trump carried out of the White House in shackles,  but that might be asking for too much. Baby steps...

Yeah that's definitely true and that's probably the biggest thing. I mean, the whole not accepting the result of the election either through ignoring the will of the people or enough shenanigans is what worries me. I think Biden has this pretty much in the bag (unless he really screws up) in a free and fair election. Right now it's obvious it won't be either of those things.

Ugh. I never want to wish ill on others, but if Trump and/or Melania don't experience significant symptoms, it's just going to strengthen the administration's messaging that it's not that bad/worth shutting things down/etc.

His youth, health and slender build are all in his favour.

Praying he's healthy and tweeting away like Herman Cain in no time.

I don't wish ill will on anyone, and there's a lot of tasteless jokes going out there. But I can not deny that this one from someone in China made me chuckle:

"Finally, Trump tweets something positive."

What does it say about the state of things these days when my initial thoughts are he doesn?t actually have Covid and he?s just using then opportunity to show that it?s not serious and add that her see you done need masks?

Actually, on a similar note there?s a frustrating article in the national post today:

Same.  It's a sad state of affairs that we can't believe anything the president of the united states tells the public.  Is it to stay out of the limelight for 2 weeks?  Avoid further debates?  Sympathy ploy or to show how strong he is in defeating the virus?
