Idiocracy

It's really nice to see that some members of the GOP are drawing a line in the sand about unacceptable behaviour. Sadly, it seems like that line is sexual assault of a minor. Anything above that is more or less anything goes.

And folks like Sean Hannity aren't even willing to go that far.

To be fair, it?s assault of a minor, or a female Secretary of State using a private email server.

This one had to be my favourite defence of Moore:

To be fair, there's something of a point there about just how much of our morality should be derived from books about people who lived thousands of years ago.

Also, not really a defence by any means. Joseph coudl very well have also been a teenager. Back in Biblical times, you were an adult by 13.

EDIT: Also, as one of my co-workers pointed out, this "defence" is blasphemy. Joseph was not Jesus' father, according to the Christian and Catholic religions.

Initiating a false comparison in attempting  to right someone's moral wrong is in itself an act of shameless righteousness.

This is how to posterize someone (politely):
Danica Roem (D) was elected into the House of Delegates last night for Virgina. She is the 2nd ever out transperson to be elected in a US Statehouse and beat out Republican incumbent Bob Marshall, who is perhaps best known for his failed bathroom bill and has referred to himself as the 'chief homophobe'.

President Donald Trump in a bizarre tweet Saturday night said he would never call Kim Jong Un "short and fat," and accused the North Korean dictator of calling him "old."

"Why would Kim Jong-un insult me by calling me 'old,' when I would NEVER call him 'short and fat?' Oh well, I try so hard to be his friend - and maybe someday that will happen!"

I saw this on Facebook and thought it was satire. It was not.

Sadly, not.  And while he focussed on being called "old", he had no comment about NK also calling him a lunatic who might start a nuclear war.

Oof, Al Franken. Come on, buddy.

I want to be surprised, but, as intelligent as he is, he's never seemed like the greatest of humans.

At this point would anything surprise you though?  It's like the steroids scandal in baseball.  Name a player that if it came out you would actually go "I wouldn't have believed it".  The only two I can think of is Derek Jeter and Roy Halladay.

I can't think of a male in power or with celebrity status right now, where if a story broke I wouldn't be like "Wow, that just floors me".  Maybe Brad Pitt?  Maybe Tom Hanks?

I don't know about surprise, necessarily, but I think there's quite a few that could results in a less "yeah, I figured they'd have something like this in their past."

Yeah, and Brad Pitt was probably a bad example considering it is alleged that he has cheated on his past two wives, which isn't at the same level as the charges that are going on right now, but if it's true, then that might be a strike against you in the morality column, depending on the circumstances of the relationship.

I think I need to step away from the news cycle for a few days, from disaster politics to sexual predators and everything in between, I'm really feeling worn out by it all.

I hope for positive outcomes from it all and for the victims, but for my own mental health, I need a break.

You gotta do what's best for you. I'm sure, if anything significant happens, we'll be here to let you know.
