Is it panic time yet?

I dunno. This seems like another first round bounce for the Leafs the way things are shaping up. Is it panic to think this? Until they prove me wrong i just can't see this team taking a step forward yet

Would that really be the end of the world? I don't mean that dismissively, it's just that the playoff matchup format is ridiculously dumb, four of top 6 forwards are still on entry level contracts, and we haven't built a top 4 defense structure yet. If they went out in 6 games, I'd be disappointed as a fan, but their window hasn't even opened yet. Wake me up in 2 more seasons when they're being bounced in round one, then I'll get all emotional.

It?s only panic time if they are good enough to win anything.  They?re not, so no panic.  They will go out in round one again.  The off-season is big because they will need to move forwards for defense.

They have a 50-50 chance of beating the bruins.

I?m enjoying the season.
Marner has jumped up to the next level and looks like a top-15 forward in the league.
Matthews continues to be arguable the top even strength goal scorer in the NHL.
Reilly is on his way to 70+ points.
Tavares set a career high in goals.

It?s a pleasure to watch the leafs develop top-of-league talent for the first time in my lifetime.

I?m enjoying every minute of the season.

There's nothing we can do but be observers, so I'm not sure what we're panicking over.

I think they all know as players what they are capable of when they play to win. This past few weeks of games have not been what we?ve seen for most of the season. For whatever reason, (likely lack of motivation) they have not been playing their best hockey of late. My gut tells me they will finish on a bit of a run and be a completely different team, ready to compete with whomever they meet come playoff time.

PS. I?ve been away this past week on holiday so I haven?t heard any updates on Dermott and Gardiner , but you have to believe their injuries have played a large part in the teams recent struggles.

Anyone know the latest and when they are expected back?

It's not literal panic, it's only in the sense of fandom and watching another year go by when you hoped for so much more at the start. I've said multiple times I just want to see the Leafs win 1 Cup before I die, and after they signed Tavares that possibility seemed much closer to reality. Now, seems like there's a lot more work to do unless they catch lightening in a bottle come playoff time.

I wouldn?t get too discouraged. I think the Leafs are a more talented team than last year, and I don?t think we need to set the record for points in a season to show that they?re a better club. If it?s about playoff wins then let?s see what they?ve got when the time comes, but like I said above I don?t think their play of late is any indication of how this team will fare in the playoffs when the chips are down. I?m counting on an extremely competitive first round, and with a good chance that the Leafs will prevail.

I think some of the angst is just even though we're tied for 5th overall and 3rd in goal differential, wins and ROW, we still won't be able to play an underdog / someone under us in the first round. That would be nice.

That being said, there IS no panic time. Ever. Let it grow. Matthews and Marner are twenty-one years old. Yes, the window is here, but if they're mostly shrewd with the cap it will be here for years to come. In the cap era no team is perfect. Caps failed for almost a decade then won the Stanley Cup.

I am panicked that Captain Sparks has a public opinion on the teams play. How about... YOU don't suck, how about that? Matt Stajan flashback.

talk about panic, my mother in law just came out to live with us after the passing of my wife's step dad. After two weeks she was heading for the fiord thank god. Can't live with these crazy tequila swigging lunatics.  She should have known better!

Advice to anyone who's Mom in Law is coming to stay with you long term. Act like a down and out alcholic for a week and they go running. I will accept my Academy Award next February.  ;)
