Is this the turning point???

I just thought I would bring up Reimers comments, of how the fans making noise gave the leafs a lift.
To the posters who said noise makes no diff I say hmmmm... and you know who you are I do. also why are the platnum seats empty? If your not going to go why not give them to real fans.

They are at games.

They are empty seats, not just in the platinums but all over the arena, at the beginning of periods because they don't allow people to go back to seats during play.

Also, Reimer said the fans were loud today, I don't think the 'suits' gave their tickets to 'real fans' tonight so what gives? How was the arena loud if it was empty and there weren't any 'real fans' there?

The seats were empty during play most of the game, the lower bowl was full of empty seats. and I have been to enough game to know they hold back fans. also the place was loud from the fans that were there.

According to this http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL.html

The Leafs have a 92.4% chance of making the playoffs, and are most likely to finish as the 5th seed. Montreal is most likely to finish as the 4th seed right now.

As we get closer the waggon will be overflowing with fans.

While I don't buy into those projections type things. A frist round playoff series against Montreal would be awesome

You are glossing over the main issue here.

Can 17,000 fans make a lot of noise?  Yes, yes they can.

Would having 2,000+ better fans in the closest, most visible section to the players have a noticeable impact?  Yes, yes it would.

Does seeing row upon row of empty seats right next to the ice and players box energize the players?  No, no it doesn't.

The point is that the platinums, the suits, the non-fans, whatever you want to call them... add nothing to the atmosphere, and we have to have a loud home crowd in spite of them, not with their help.

If we could replace them with die-hards we could have something closer to Winnipeg rather than Atlanta.

It really would be something. That hasn't happened since when...the late 70s?

All and all a good report. nothing on the coach and gm, the sports writer droped the ball on tha one.
I think Kessel should be in the room for improvment groop. he needs to step it up to the next level.

Winnipeg, the team that's currently 4-6-0 at home? The team with the 2nd worst home record in the NHL?

If lots of fans making lots of noise had the impact you claim it does then how in the world could Phoenix have been as good as they've been at home in recent years? Why is Edmonton's home record no better than Columbus? Why wouldn't every team in the league artificially pipe in noise?

Fact is, there's simply no quantifiable, measurable evidence that loud fans leads to anything. This isn't like trying to measure "leadership", both the loudness of a building and a team's home record can be measured. If there were anything to it, there would be data supporting it. There just isn't.

Nik Nik Nik..... Don't Reimers Quote count, after all he is a player on our team. If he is on the ice for our team, and says the noisey fans give the players a lift, then why would you doubt it.  I would take your opinion a bit more seirous if it wern't for the fact our #1 goalie disagrees with you.
Evidence is undeniable when comming from the mouth of a guy who is there every game, and one of the players in question.
