Islanders @ Leafs - Mar. 9th, 7:00pm - SN, Fan 590

I was going to jokingly post about how Nylander clearly didn't want to score on that ether, but I'll just wait for someone to write this in a serious tone.

Some signs of inexperience from Nylander on his attempt. Can't get in that close on NHL goalies. They're confident enough to use the poke check.

It almost seemed like Greiss luckily knocked the puck away in the midst of being deked, ha.

Oh my god a T-Swift mashup? I'm changing my answer to yes, a million times yes.

I brought up the other day how Nylander is a lot more experienced than your average NHL rookie, and the same can be said about Soshnikov and Hyman as well. Soshnikov's turning 23 this October and had 2 seasons in the KHL playing professionally against men prior to coming to North America. Hyman turns 24 this summer, and I don't think there's a lot of examples of NHL players who completed 4 years of NCAA hockey who needed more than a season of seasoning before making the jump to the NHL. So next season when we potentially have a boatload of rookies in the line-up it won't be like they're all teenagers just coming out of junior hockey.

Babcock says working with Kadri on his shooting will be a priority in the off-season.

Interesting comment. I don't feel like Kadri has a poor shot exactly but I also wouldn't really list it as one of his strengths. I feel like most of his goals are scored more in close, using his hands/dekes. If he can improve his shot to cash in on more of the opportunities he creates for himself from 20 feet away, watch out.

Mike Babcock: "Hyman and (Soshnikov) are here to stay. They're too good and too fast."

I think it's pretty clear that Babcock isn't impressed with Nylander.  No mention of him in this comment.  This makes this the only reasonable interpretation of how Babcock feels about him.

Wait, they took Nylander's assist away?

Yeah, seems like Greening got a piece of it after Marincin shot it on net.

6 points in 14 games.  I think we just might be able to deal him at the deadline next year.

Yeah. Babs also said that last nights game was the first game we saw Nylander skate. Not a ringing endorsement. He's definately got the talent but needs to ramp up the effort level a few notches.

I wonder if anyone that watched a lot of Marlie games this year can add to this? Was there a consistent effort level from Nylander down there?
