I've probably watched this 30 times, and somehow every time I'm surprised when he goes to the backhand.

I wonder if he could pull it off again in the same situation.  That looked like a pretty unstoppable move.

Hellebuyck left a lot of room for the backhand. Like probably everybody else, he bet on a Matthews forehand shot, or possibly a return pass to Rielly. Seeing Matthews go to the backhand so deftly probably made a lot of NHL goalies a little more scared of his goal-scoring options and abilities.

A silver lining to Matthews injury is the way he's been exploring ways to score without relying on his deadly shot. This experience might make him an even more complete goal-scorer in the long run.

No matter how often you watch this goal, the way he scores it tricks the eye. The goal appears like voodoo magic because of the hesitation with that backhand shot. Absolute great goal!

This was great.

In some ways, Matthews reminds me of a pre-concussion Lindros - especially when he just shrugs off a hit like that.
