Jets @ Leafs - Mar. 31st, 7:00pm - TSN4, Fan 590

So Spezza and Simmonds will miraculously lose 10-15 years each?  Spezza is pushing 40, and Simmonds' entire career was banging and crashing, they are both just worn out.  Spezza has put up some points the last couple years, and doesn't look terrible out there.  Simmonds on the other hand just looks done.

Simmonds def can't do the everyday grind anymore but for spot duty I think he'll be fine. Spezza is fine. I think it's more about his linemates bringing him down then anything.

Simmonds is basically done at this point. Getting him into the odd game is nice for him, but not helpful to the team.

Spezza is still useful for pp2 and faceoffs.  And I think he'll play well as a 4th line winger with 2 speedy sidekicks who help with puck possession and retrieval.  He just can't play with other slow grinders.

Spezza needs 9 more points to hit 1000 regular season pts. We'll see him against a few of the bottom feeders, but LTIR will help us give him more load management.

Man I really wanted Spezza to hit 1000 points this season. But with just 16 games left that ain't happening. Wonder what his future holds.

Start playing him on the top PP.

I like them both but both of them are more liabilities than assets at this point (the odd game excepted).

I kind of get the strategy here tonight. Give a few of the veterans one last chance to show they belong before you cement those permanent spots to Blackwell (he?s not going anywhere) and the young guys like Abruzzese and hopefully Knies.

What better way to light a fire under someone like Simmonds, even if it?s for just 1 game, then to jeopardize his place and role on this team.

A rehash of the last game against the Jets for those interested...

I know the Jets fans in the building are going to yell "TRUE NORTH" during the National Anthem, and I'm going throw something at my TV.  Hopefully something soft..

I predict Matthews gets it done early: 1st period for sure, maybe within the first 10 minutes.
