Jonathan Drouin requests trade

The right call. I understand where he and his agent were coming from, but this should have happened right when the deadline passed.

So playing hardball didn't really work as planned?

I'm shocked.
Love it, probably the best case scenario for everyone. I hope it works in TB for him and the team. Kids don't do what Drouin did.

Phil Esposito said everything was all the doing of Drouin's parents and that agent Walsh had opposed it, for what his opinion/insight's worth.

Yeah I hadn't heard the parents angle before but it was widely rumoured that Drouin, not Walsh, was driving the bus here.

Tampa's recalled Drouin. They have 2 games left in the regular season. Plus without Stamkos they'll likely need his offence in the playoffs. Since he returned to the AHL after his suspension he's scored 9 goals in 10 games. Any chance they salvage their relationship here?

I think Tampa can save face since they didn't buckle, and all Drouin has to do is be a good soldier.

It's all on Drouin now.

Scored a nifty goal in his first game back that ended up being the game winner.

I think his camp (his parents) probably still wants him out of Tampa.  We'll see if they can kiss and make up long term.

Drouin says that he wants to stay. Ended up being a really good job here by Yzerman to wait teams out.

Although that might be partially in thanks to other teams being not-so-smart, since there was a report out there saying the sens wouldn't part with defenceman Cody Ceci for Drouin. That could look pretty foolish, pretty soon (if it doesn't already).

Well, I'm surprised that things smoothed out but I'm not surprised that the way it happened was with Drouin on the team and playing a significant role. That seems to be all he ever wanted.

Yzerman was never going let both Stammer AND Drouin get away, with Drouin being a potential replacement if Stammer failed to sign.
