Jonathan Drouin requests trade

Bender said:
I'm all for differing opinions, but if my roommate for example goes on about how Kadri sucks (which he does game in and game out) with nothing other than "because he sucks" then I'm going to show him a couple of counterarguments. If he disagrees that's fine too but its rooted in emotion and not on actual play.

I don't see how that is any different here or why that's a bad thing. If someone leaves because the other side gives a more nuanced analysis of what's going on with the team that's their own prerogative and I really don't mind if they do or don't. It doesn't change anything for me.

There are plenty of older members I miss too but there are still quite a lot of older posters that are still here and this is still one of the better boards for real discussion on the team.

Regardless though we have gotten way off topic. Drouin for Antro, Poni and a 1st?

Wrong.  Antro, Cola, and a 1st.

Guys, I just went onto a statistical website and found out that Nik Antropov hasn't been on the team since 2009.

so..how about that Jonathan Drouin situation...

What is the value of Jonathan Drouin? I think it's too early to call him a flameout or a bust but if you had a 10th pick in this years draft, would you trade it for Drouin?

Probably not....but I might consider Pittsburgs pick that we got coming.

I know it's cliche to link every french canadian last name with the habs, but considering the need to shake things up with the losses piling, I would think Montreal's 1st round pick would pretty much be as good as tampa could hope to get, assuming Montreal settles to a wild card 2016 finish.

i'm probably over valuing his tantrum so i don't think anything want to part with would actually be comparable to his actual value.  I also guess i don't know how deep this draft is supposed to be.  he was third over all in his draft year right?

Yeah, 3rd overall.

I just don't see Yzerman getting any kind of trade offer he'll like based on Drouin's limited success in the NHL and now his perceived attitude problem with the public trade demand.

Time to cut bait.

Yzerman screwed up not trading him when Drouin asked back in November.

I don't think Yzerman wants to trade him, that's the thing.  He is under team control for what, 3 more years?  At the league minimum?  Tampa Bay is having serious cap and money issues so controlling a player of Drouin's calibre is critical for them.  My guess is that the main catalyst that's causing Drouin to go all crazy like this is he wants to play the two more games this year so that he's a UFA one year sooner.  That's just not going to happen though.

As crazy as this might sound I'm starting to think that Drouin is actually going to stay in Tampa Bay.  Yzerman may just let him rot until he eventually cracks.  What's Drouin going to do, move into his parents basement and give up his NHL career?

I think he's too much of a baby for that.  Also, what would happen when he came back?  Would he still be the property of Tampa Bay?

Forever?  What if he plays 5 years in the KHL first?

His contract would basically be frozen in time. Any years left on it would have to be played out in the NHL.

But as of right now the KHL and NHL are honouring each others contracts, so that probably wouldn't even happen.

So this kid thinks that not playing and getting suspended is going to somehow expedite a trade? Are you kidding me? This nonsense defies all logic.

Well, if you figure that the Lightning want to deal Drouin when his value is at its highest and that sitting around suspended and not playing probably hurts his value then, sure, it could expedite things. Considering everything else Tampa is dealing with right now you have to figure they don't want this on their plates as well.
You know what?  There are two or three of you guys on here that basically talk down everyone else and act like you know it all.  I actually have some choice words for you guys but I'm not going to say it because this is a public forum.  You guys are really ruining the forum here and it's why in large part I no longer even bother with this place.  It's really pathetic that you need to do this to stroke your own ego.  I know that personally I'm highly educated and quite knowledgeable so your crap doesn't really affect me.  It does ruin the forum here though.

I fully realize that this post isn't going to change anything but really you fully deserve to be called out like this.

I have a been a Leafs fan all my life and to be honest with you, you guys make me sick.  I came on here to chat with other Leafs fans but it's always a one way street with some of you.

I can't help but agree with you.

Yeah, that's more or less my read on it. Say what you want about what Drouin's doing, I think that once a trade request is made public a team has very limited ways where things will turn out well for them. It's why I think that with the similar situation with Kyle Turris or a somewhat less similar situation with Evander Kane there were rumblings of discontent but once things became public those teams fairly quickly decided to cut bait and move on.

What's the best case scenario for the Lightning realistically here if they don't trade Drouin? An unhappy player who will have missed out on key development time? We occasionally like to gloss over the concept of team chemistry but there's really no way keeping Drouin doesn't negatively affect that for the Lightning when they very well might be faced with a situation where they're looking for new leadership anyways.
