Kadri facing possible suspension (edit: 3 games)

Well according to everyone's favourite referee Kerry Fraser both hits should have received match penalties.

"Nazem Kadri made two very irresponsible decisions with separate hits to the head of Wild goalkeeper Niklas Backstrom at 7:07 of the first period and then to Mikael Granlund at 8:41 of the third. Both of these illegal hits to the head were worthy of a five-minute match penalty!"

hard to tell on the replays. The hit looks totally different from different angles. But one shows he clearly stays on his feet and has his arms tucked in. Can't tell if he hit the head or not.

The second hit doesn't deserve a suspension - it was borderline 2 min/5 min.

The problem is this borderline match-worthy hit was preceeded by a blatant run at Backstrom. He's getting suspended, my guess is 2-3 games but could be as high as 5.

There is zero chance he gets 5 games.

Yeah he's never been suspended before and this isn't exactly the worst of hits.  NHL already said the 2nd hit didn't require any further discipline.

Of course it is Shanahan's terrible inconsistency we are talking about here. One day the hit can be no suspension the next day 5 games...

DarrenDreger: Hearing 3 games for Kadri.

I don't get it. Tootoo got less for a worse hit, and, while he wasn't considered a repeat offender at the time, it wasn't his first suspension either. The wheel of supplementary discipline is back in action, I guess.

If it's 3 I suspect they added one for the second hit in the game.  Think what you will of it, the optics are bad and Kadri should have known that before laying into Granlund.

Well, if this is the new standard for non-repeat offenders, then so be it.

Let's just hope the next time it happens in the NHL, the perpetrator gets 3 games too.

Edler got 2 for hitting Smith last year too.
