Kadri signs 1-year extension

Figured this might peak the interest of some of you and get a conversation going.

I don't really think that there's much else left to say in the Kadri-conversation. I mean even that article you posted, as informative as it is doesn't really say anything new. Kadri fans have been saying for over a year how he matches up very well statistically in those areas to players people generally consider to be much better. Everyone's basically picked their side on this one already, and nobody will be changing theirs until Kadri at least steps back onto the ice.

IMHO, this is a show me season for Kadri.

If he fails to impress, he's gone at the trade deadline.  Just my opinion.  My opinion may not be anywhere near the truth, however.

I agree, if he hasn't shown it by the trade deadline, he'll be gonezo!

However, we must define 'it'.  He must show he is a 1st line centre capable of scoring at least 25 goals!  JMHO.

I don't often disagree with myself.

Hilarious stuff!  Glad I haven't changed my mind!  Didn't even notice it was my post I was responding to. 8)

Over on Ranking Prospects, we've been chatting about the value of our top-tier NHL players, so I thought I'd spin out a more specific conversation here.

Is it worth keeping Kadri during the roster turnover of this and next season?

This article Patrick posted above raises some good points in favour of keeping Kadri.

It also raises some good points against keeping him:
a) Kadri might hit ROR pts and thus net a ROR overpayment
b) His comparables are ROR, Brandon Saad, Brad Marchand, Derek Stepan in individual points per 60 min, which is good, but I'd argue you'd want more from your projected 1C

Kind of chicken or egg no?  Would playing with wingers who produce at a 1st line clip raise those #'s?  I mean, Bozak's #'s for that same stat are 1.67 P/60.  Is the question whether this current Leafs team would want more from their projected #1 C or any team would want more from their projected #1 C?

The linked article is a weird cut off using only between 2700 and 2750 minutes played.  Why the arbitrary cut-off?  Look at this list of forwards with 2000+ 5v5 minutes since 2012: Link.  Kadri ends up ahead of or in the same area as Joe Thornton, Pavel Datsyuk, James Neal, Logan Couture, Anze Kopitar, David Backes, Jason Spezza, etc etc.

Just seems weird to only look at players who played between 2700 and 2750 minutes.  Really changes how you can look at that list of players.

(Didn't have an all-purpose Kadri thread so...)

Kind of a shame that Naz is asked these kinds of questions but in his role as impromptu spokesperson I think he did a pretty good job.

He may be outspoken in some ways, but I've always found Kadri to be good in front of the cameras. Toronto mainstream media, not so much.

I also thought he was the only Muslim in the NHL, but apparently Nail Yakupov is as well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Muslim_sportspersons#Ice_Hockey
