Las Vegas Expansion Team Thread

Ooooh are we talking type design again?!?!?

Could they be considering a Fraktur?  Maybe a Transitional Humanist?

I gotta go get a highball to calm down

How long do Vegas have to keep players selected in the expansion draft?

If a team doesn't want to trade a player but has to risk exposing them in expansion, could you work out a deal with Vegas to pick that player and then Vegas trades you the guy they just selected for a pre-determined trade return?

I haven't seen anything to suggest that once a player is taken in the expansion draft he isn't then Vegas' to do with as they like.

Thing is I can't imagine Vegas would be inclined to do anyone favours at their own detriment so you'd effectively be paying market rate for that player.

Here is the (preliminary) list of exempt players for the expansion draft:

Is it too late to cancel the franchise?

That how enthusiastic I am about the whole thing.  Really the Golden Knights? Are you an Arena football team?

Yay, headline pun material.

Gallant has been hired as the VGK head coach.

There's a terrific article at ESPN about the Raiders relocation to Vegas and in it there's a bit that is fairly relevant to the idea of the Knights and the Vegas market in general:

But that's not the Vegas Strip where the Raiders will play after owners on March 27 approved the team's relocation by a shockingly lopsided 31-1 vote. They're moving in either 2019 or 2020 to a Vegas that is fading, thanks to the continuing fallout from the real estate crash a decade ago and millennials' deep distaste for casino games. Wide swaths of craps tables and roulette wheels sit empty on casino floors as 20-somethings, mesmerized by their smartphones, idle on leather chairs with their backs turned to the pulsating penny slot machines. Deep debt hangs over most gaming corporations, and a handful are untangling themselves from multibillion-dollar bankruptcies. Many casinos now charge for parking, once unheard of in an industry designed to make it easy for customers to enter and all but impossible to leave. The old Stardust's land has remained unused for the past decade; multibillion-dollar behemoth casino projects now end up in faster-growing cities. A palpable feeling of dread exists, as if the ultimate boom-and-bust town is destined to become the next Detroit. "For Vegas, it's third-and-11 coming up," says David Malinsky, a leading sports gambling expert who has lived there for 30 years. "If not for the Raiders, there just isn't much left in the playbook."

Best of luck to the Knights.

Getting fired by the computer boys the way the he did was probably the absolute best thing to happen to Gallant's career. The media is making it out to seem like they just hired the greatest coach in history.

I still think they're only hiring him for the pun.

I may look dumb for asking this, but what pun?

Hmmm, I probably never would have thought of that but yeah, okay. :P

Gallantry is also not something one normally associates with Vegas.
