Leafs 2012/2013 Schedule in 10 game chunks

I think the return of Frattin and the hopefully-soon return of Lupul will help.

Ultimately though, this team needs better defensemen.

Yeah.  It once again comes down to the problem of needing a #1 center and a top defenseman, and it is very hard to obtain those kinds of players.  Our best opportunity for a top center occurred when Philly was selling off Carter and Richards, it seems.  Perhaps they were unobtainable as Philly wasn't interested in trading within its own conference or we didn't have the assets they wanted. .... anyway, I'm not seeing the free-agent opportunities.  They may need to come from within.  Cross your fingers on Kadri, Rielly and Gardiner.

I think improving the D (both the d-men and overall) is more important than a #1 C.

Agreed.

I think lots of that will have to come from within and take time... Percy, Finn, Reilly and Gardiner all look like they could be contributors at some point.

Another 5 years before they are good enough?  It will try our patience.  :-)

Getting ugly.

Those back-to-back Boston games feel like automatic losses to me already.  *Sigh*

Oh -- the Ottawa game is highlited in blue because it's the last game they play before the trade deadline.

Now, I'm not one to subscribe to the cliche of the "must win game" that you hear in the media from time to time.  That being said, with 19 games left and back-to-back with Boston after the Tampa and Buffalo games....holy hell do the Leafs need to win the NEXT 2 games because I fear those two Boston games are already losses.

If they win tonight, the 10 game chunk is 4-4-2 which is bad but not terrible considering the 5 losses in a row.  Onwards and upwards for the next 10.  Cross your fingers.

I refuse to give Boston them two wins . We need to get over that hump.

You can refuse it all you want, they'll still take them.

Yes and  a new streak going where they haven't had a regulation loss in 2 games now  ;)

Note: Kadri is top of the pack for MotM for the 3rd 10 game segment.  That's two in a row for Kadri, he was tops for the games 11-20.

Kadri is also the only Leaf player to appear in top 3 for MotM in all 3 ten game segments.  Early candidate for Leafs MVP?

MotM standings for first 10: (5W-5L)
van Riemsdyk 10
Frattin 7
Kadri 5

MotM standings for second 10: (7W-3L)
Kadri 8
Scrivens 7
JVR / Bozak 4

MotM standings for third 10: (4W-4L-2OTL)
Kadri 11
Kessel 6
Phaneuf 4

At this point, Kadri has been stealing the show this year.  Last nights game in particular should make us start to question our need for a #1 C.  Kadri has the the skill of a #1 Center, plays physical hockey, and is fairly responsible defensively.  Carlyle is gaining more and more trust in him- we will see him going up against the other team's top line more often.  Everyone wants our #1C to be the size of Sundin, but while Kadri is undersized, he definitely doesn't play like he is.

Anyone take a look at the schedule from here on out? It actually looks fairly respectable for the remainder of the season.  :)
