I dunno... being a good ol' Canadian boy sort of gives you a lot of license to screw up defensively (see Rielly). We'll see if that's offset by being named Jake.

Perhaps we can trade Freddie the Goat to the Islanders for a 2nd?Nik the Trik said:Also, while I'm generally on board the "this is a good trade and a good price" and everything I also hope that what this drives home, and what should maybe be seen as a lesson until the deadline, is why deals like the Boyle/Plekanec deals are bad and shouldn't be repeated. 2nd round picks, well used, can very quickly become valuable pieces that can be used to seriously upgrade the team. 4th line C's, aren't.

Because we're literally grasping at straws for content:
Marleau wears 12, and Connor Brown knows it. They haven't gone into negotiations yet, at the time of this interview, but I hope Brown gets a nice watch or something fun out of it.
Newmeros:
- Marleau taking 12 is a foregone conclusion
- Brown (if/when he is signed) takes 28
- Kapanen (if he makes the team out of camp) used to wear 42 in Liiga, but since Bozak is still there (maybe), he'll likely take the vacated 24.
- If Calle Rosen makes the team out of camp, his usual 39 is available.
- If Travis Dermott makes the team, he's not getting his junior 44 from Rielly, and he's not getting his Marlies 8 from Carrick, so I'm going to suggest he take 23, which is 2^3 = 8 (or 4+4) because we know he's totally all about that sort of thing.
herman said:What number will Jake Muzzin wear for the Leafs?
His preferred #6 is retired.
He wore #3 at one point in the AHL, and that number is currently occupied by Holl (who is likely to be loaned, but that number should be a lock).
I think he takes 8 to get a traditional defenseman's low number, or 66 to sort of match Rielly.
Guilt Trip said:What about Pesce? He's only 24 and signed for 5 more years at 4 per or is that too long seeing Sandin and Lilypad would hopefully be ready to go before then. This is a great move tho.
Nik the Trik said:66 still feels wrong for anyone to wear. 67, on the other hand, feels like an underrated one.

I dig it. Does wearing 66 matter that much for a defenseman?

Let me get started:
1. Obviously inflated stats due to partner X in LA.
2. Maybe doesn't like to play for Babcock. Is it time to move Babcock out?
3. May take the season to get used to new partner.
4. I can see the skill, but he's just unlucky right now.
5. His underlying stats look really good, and plus minus is a terrible stat.
6. Used to losing in LA, maybe he's having trouble adjusting to actual expectations.
7. He chipped the puck in at 2:36 of the 2nd period, obviously old school defender not adjusting to new NHL.

Lebrun is quoting himself and Dubas's comments to feel vindicated?
