As mentioned in another thread, Mark Fraser makes a surprise appearance as another guy on a PTO.

No problem. Feel free to grab it for the original post and remove these subsequent posts, if you'd prefer a cleaner look.

There are a bunch of players signed to minor league contracts (Brett Findlay, Erik Bradford, Chris Clapperton, Patrick Watling, Denver Manderson, Zach Bell and Brenden Miller) that weren't included in the training camp roster. Will these players report directly to the Marlie or Solar Bear camps?

For those wondering, Horton did take a physical (out of town) and of course did not pass it.

That is generally what happens to these guys. They're not being evaluated for NHL roster spots now or in the future. No need to bring them to the main camp. It's crowded enough.

I remember Watling being a decent role player, wouldn't be surprised to see him as a 10-12th forward on the Marlies.

Also has history with Keefe and Dubas if I recall correctly.

You're probably right but then why bother signing these players in the first place. There are several undrafted juniors and college free agents that are still young enough to fill out your minor league rosters that could be late developers.

Because, you're still trying to have your minor league teams win. You can't just fill them with hopefuls. There has to be some players that you know are capable of contributing at that level. Also, the types of players your suggesting to fill out the roster are generally looking for NHL contracts, and there are limits on how many players that can be signed to those.

Guys like Froese, Watling, and Findley do have a large upside, just so much talent ahead of them on the depth chart that it is highly unlikely that any will ever where the big club sweater.
Should help the Solar Bears though.

They don't have large upside.  At best they are 4th line options barring something very unexpected occurring in their development.  Froese will already be 25 when this season is over, Watling has limited upside offensively, Findlay will be 23 next month and hasn't progressed past the ECHL.  They're depth/minor leaguers.

Mike Babcock on watching video of the returning players from last year:

"Why would I watch them be bad?" he asked. "It makes no sense to me."

Uh Mike,  you might want to buckle up for this season.
