Leafs @ Blue Jackets - Mar. 7th, 7:00pm - SN, Fan 590

No idea why you give him so much room. I can understand when it was 6 on 4 but cover him and that shot. Let someone else beat you.

Blah.  Come on Petr.
Not on him...he saved their butts tonight.

If it was tipped, no.  And good on him for the last 30 seconds.  But he doesn't inspire confidence, in me anyway.
Wasn't just the last 30...he made some big saves when it was 3-3..Made a huge save off Laine on the PK to. Couldn't blame him for any goals tonight and that's a good thing.

Isn?t it more disappointing to never have big leads at all?
Good point. They haven't played bad tonight...just making easy mistakes .

Well, sure.  But that doesn't change my statement.  I expect them to not let lesser teams back into games when they jump out ahead.  At least that's what I of the best teams.
Leafs aren't the only top team to do this. I saw it posted somewhere that the Leafs are just average at blowing leads.

All teams do but how about big leads? It's different when you're blowing a 1 or 2 goal lead but too often we are blowing 3-4 goal leads and that is a concern. I don't understand what it is. Is it mental, team is too fragile, just coincidence. Definitely a concern. Put it this way when we are up by 3 or 4 with a lot of the game left how confident are you that 2 points are in the bag. Myself personally I never feel it's over.

It?s having below league average goaltending. I?m also not sure this is even true. I feel this is recency bias.

Sorry, I just can't bring myself to say the goalie played well when he lets in 4.

It?s funny how back in the day they would say that Fuhr might give up 4 goals a night but he?s shut the door and not let that 5th one in.

Now you give up any goals they?re bad goals or the defence is garbage.

And for the record I always thought that fuhr stuff is nonesense.

Can I just commend yet another team for not committing infractions against the Leafs.

41 powerplays for 54 powerplays against in 15GP.  That is a league worst -13 PP differential

How the hell is this team committing more infractions than they are drawing.

Because they're brutes and bullies

You know goalies can be blameless on goals sometimes....it does happen. You can think what you want but he made a couple of big saves when it was 3-3. If he lets one in there, they lose for sure. I'm just glad that he couldn't be faulted tonight and I'm hoping for the same tomorrow with Jack.

Here's what Keefe had to say postgame:

I thought he played a lot better than the stat line is going to show today. On the last goal, I don?t think he saw that coming through Holl there as Holl is trying to block it. If anything, he is probably expecting a guy like Laine to rip that high. It comes right along the ice. That is a tough one.

There were a couple of backdoor goals and another tip. I thought he stood strong at times in that third period, especially when they had a couple of rallies there. I was really encouraged by his game.

So it's you and Joe S and Keefe against me.

Nevertheless, me am right.

EDIT: FWIW I agree with MLHS here:

7.  We have no choice but to continue to talk about the start of periods. How did the Leafs start the third? They took a penalty in the first minute, and the Blue Jackets promptly tied the game.

In all three periods of this game, the Leafs manufactured pedestrian starts that are not at all in line with their talent level or abilities. They hardly ever impose their will at the beginning of periods or games. To go for 0/3 in this game, against a team playing their third game in four nights, is concerning at this point in the season.

Yah that.

So it seems Colorado had a 5-1 lead in the 3rd and won 5-4. So there?s that.
