Muzzin done for the night. You should be too.

As fans, we may want to take tomorrow nights game off as well.  We all know how well this team does in back to backs.  You know just to pour salt in the wound, the Habs played yesterday.

Well, hopefully, this is hitting bottom.

I think that too sometimes.  Then I start asking myself, how many bottoms are there in a year?
This is no different then any other team in the league. Bad stretches, brutal games.

I guess Florida and Carolina haven't hit theirs yet.
Carolina lost 5 of 6 earlier this year and 4 of 5 not too long ago. They've lost twice to the Sens, got beat 6-0 to CBJ, 7-4 to the Devils. Panthers lost 4 of 5 in Dec,. Lost to the Kraken twice. Lost 8-2 to the Sens. It happens to all teams..

Since January 1st the Leafs have an 88.9% save percentage at 5on5 that's 3rd worst in the NHL. Campbell's goals saved above expected has plummeted and Mrazek has a GSAE of -1.9

The defense hasn't been good in the last two months but the goaltending has been a real problem.

Yup and more Campbell then Mrazek. I heard today that JT and Willy have something like 2 5v5 goals since December...not good from then and their defensive game has been terrible

Sure, but isn't this the second string for the Leafs?  Remember the early games against Pittsburgh?  The 7-1 loss.  The loss to the Sens.  And this has been going on longer than 4 or 5 games.  They had that rough stretch out west where Campbell looked bad.

For me the issue is that when you start to see things that in the past have been red flags, and they aren't gone, then it leads me to believe that not much has changed in the mental makeup of this team.  They are supremely talented.  I would say that from a pure talent perspective, they are in the top five in the league, but mentally it's like they can't get over the hump.  So they come into a game against the 32nd place team, that played the night before, and mentally the Leafs just take the first 2 periods off.  You can't do that in the playoffs.  You can't play from behind that much because you can't waste that energy.  You have to come out and dictate the play and take the series over.  So every time I see them not get up for a game like this, then I think, what's it going to look like in the playoffs?

Haha Simmonds hammers Anderson. Oh and I liked how Anderson was all tough in the 2nd period until Simmonds grabbed him.

Well said.

When you go down 5-0 you are never going to call it a good game but the Leafs are at least pressing in the 3rd.  It's a decent response after a terrible first two periods (of output as again, we aren't getting saves as much as the team is playing questionable defensively)

At what point do we split up the 2nd line.  Something about it isn't working.

Other musings.  How come when the Leafs are down we never seen to get score effects power-plays?

Combo of the 2 things again..been on repeat for a while now.

Rotten game but the bottom 6 have responded nicely in the third.  My MotM / HM will be Mikheyev and Spezza.

Agreed.  I don't understand how Pittsburgh can have 5 the other night, and the Leafs have only had 2.

We have a negative PP differential on the season now.

The refs know that Kadri doesn't play for the Leafs anymore, right?
