Craziest 2-0 game I can remember.

But it does demonstrate that the team can win a tight one.

I mean, I guess . . . though, the only way this was a 'tight one' was on the scoreboard. The play on the ice was pretty loose.

Well, yes but overall I thought the defense was pretty disciplined.  For ex, Ovie wasn't allowed to run amok, as Job One.

Yup. The Marleau-Kadri-Komarov-Gardiner-Zaitsev unit did a great job against him.

Not sure I've seen this before, Zaitsev and Hainsey were the only two defencemen to play on the PK tonight. They both had 4:57 of ice-time shorthanded. The 4 regular forward PKers all split their time evenly. Babcock really doesn't like using any of the other D there. Hainsey is averaging over 6 minutes on the PK a night and Zaitsev 5 and a half. Rielly's the next highest at just a shade under 2 while Borgman is at 1:35. Gardiner has seen spot duty only usually when one of those D takes a penalty and Carrick and Rosen haven't gotten a sniff of it. So when Borgman sits Babs really only has 3 defencemen he likes using there.

I mean it's been working well enough so far but that's really not something we can do all season long.

Is it just me or has Hyman not seemed as tenacious on the forecheck this year compared to last year...
He broke up the goal of the year with his skate, Nylander-Matthews give and go. I REALLY REALLY REALLY would like them to try someone else on that line.

Have to agree.  Excellent analysis by Mirtle in comparing the different roster changes to both the Capitals and the Leafs, and why, if last the Leafs & Capitals shall meet again, results may be a more positive one for Toronto.

With the current and much-improved roster, the potential for victory would come off as more plausible.  Mirtle breaks down the details (comparing numbers between players then such as Matt Hunwick to current such as Hainsey, for example) and gives compelling reasons why this Leafs roster would accomplish things differently.

Considering the add-ons the Leafs made -- Marleau, Hainsey, Moore, Fehr, as well as Borgman & Rosen, and the deletions the Caps' were forced to make due to salary cap issues -- Shattenkirk, Alzner, Johannsen's, Winnik, Justin Williams, Schmidt -- it goes to show that even with minimal but crucial tweaking here & there, the Leafs now possess more depth, skill, & experience to emerge the victors in such a series, were it to happen again, hypothetically-speaking.

The fact that the Leafs shut out Washington in this game very efficiently certainly lends credence to Mirtle's assertions.
