Leafs give Richard Clune NHL deal

Rich Clune has signed a NHL contract with #leafs and has been recalled from the AHL.

Was of course on an AHL-deal with the Marlies before that. He has 5 points in 8 AHL games, and by a few accounts has looked pretty decent down there.

Hopefully this means some face-punching in the near future.

Yeah I mean in a season like this I actually wouldn't mind somebody who's willing to throw the body around a little bit. Even if it's at the expense of an actual 4th line NHLer.

I'll wait to see him play, but I really don't care if he takes the 13th-14th forward spot.

There was another guy down there that Dubas brought in to fight for the kids, Johnson...looks like he's only played 2 games.

Although despite his high PIM totals, his AHL contract (as detailed by Friedman in his latest 30 Thoughts) almost has his role as more of like a player-coach to the players on the team.  He gets bonuses if the team does well, so he seems like someone they wanted around the team as much as on the ice.

after reading today Globe and Mail regarding enforcers and the price they have paid for the fisticuffs I would try to eliminate fighting from the game completely. To many of the big fighters are dying young.

Looks like Babcock's serious about 3rd/4th line being a try out all year round. Clune and Froese look to be our key NHL/AHL yo-yos until the deadline.

I need Dubas to clarify. #FreeDubas

I really enjoyed the interview with him on the Leafs main site, interesting cat. ( speaking of cats, and he doesn't say it in the interview but his favourite player growing up was Felix Potvin )

The Clune-era last 8 days. He's on waivers.

Brief, but memorable, the Clune saga was.

People will ask me, "What was it like during those times?"

"I'll never forget that 16 total minutes of ice time over those 2 games he played for the Toronto Maple Leafs", I'd say.

I was cheering for Clune to have a good showing when he was up with the Leafs, but the way he was running around was a little unappealing. It will be curious to see what he does when Grand Rapids is back in town.

Yup, I went into this as optimistic as one could be, but he just looked like a dumb goon minus any actual fighting.
