Leafs give Richard Clune NHL deal

I don't really get it to be honest.  Clune wasn't any more deserving of a roster spot and contract than say a guy like Curtis Glencross.  He got a deal essentially for being a good little soldier as an enforcer who cleaned up his act with booze.

I get that the money doesn't really matter and that it doesn't come out of my pocketbook but I don't really get the need to reward Clune with a big salary increase.

in the big scheme of things LK its no big matter however Kadri's permanent 5 O clock shadow does concern me. I can see Lou getting him a big jar or Nair or getting facial wax job.

I'm assuming that he doesn't actually play, as the team likely sticks with the 12 forwards from last night, but if he does get into a game Arcobello/Leivo/Panik have all got to be a little irked by that, right?

Maybe, but the Marlies also don't play for a few days, maybe they'll enjoy the time off?

Maybe, but, at the same time, they're probably enjoying being part of a winning team.

They're playing the Jets...you probably want some sandpaper in your lineup when playing the Jets.

I wouldn't be surprised if he plays.

And Winnik might not be 100% based on his comments regarding his early return from that knee lower body thing.

It doesn't affect me personally but it must be nice for guys like Leivo to have nice years in the AHL, watch Grabner play like crap outside of the penalty kill and see Clune get promotions because he's a feel good story for overcoming alcohol.  I'm not sure I get it to be honest.  I'm all for developing guys in the AHL but you could easily bring up one of the college kids to get a feel of the NHL game and see if it sparks something rather than allowing Clune to come up and take another stupid major penalty and be done.

Well Dubas said last year he didn't like having Percy go up and down so they are clearly trying to avoid doing that with the young guys that they have higher hopes for.  Lupul's IR stint is a short-term one so the roster spot will only be open for a short time and he'll be back down barring anything else happening.  They've also been clear that they're in constant discussion with the Marlies players about why certain players are coming up and why certain players aren't right now.

Yes an AHL prospect should not be exposed to the bigs until they are ready, ready for the media onslaught, playing with hardened men, just ready and ready mentally. This is becoming more transparent every day.
Komarov for example was a tantalizing prospect, remained in the KHL until he deemed himself ready. Started out pretty good in the NHL, had a concussion and looked iffy and now is the teams top scorer.
And best of all is showing the way the game should be played. Reminds me a bit of Kenny the "Rat"

Percy was in his first professional season. Leivo's barely, barely a prospect anymore and Panik and Arcobello definitely aren't. I get what Dubas is saying, but that doesn't apply to the best Marlies forwards right now save for Nylander.

Yeah wouldn't surprise me to see him get some face punching in vs. Thorburn.
Leafs are the ONLY team in the NHL this year without a fight, every other team has had at least two and the Jets have had ten.
