Leafs Injury Updates

I think he's overpaid, but he's a quality bottom 6'er.

He is a quality bottom 6'er and minus Brown (who is also out) how many of those do we really have? Steckel? That's 3/6...

Which really just highlights how stupid it is to carry Rosehill and Orr as your 13th/14th forwards.  Two highly injury prone players (at least with the Leafs) and you carry liabilities that you don't trust on the ice for more than 3 minutes.  Bring up Zigomanis and Boyce and at least you have guys who can offer something to the team other than being a punching bag.

Bozak/Connolly? Frattin/MacArthur?

Are the not supposed to be top 6 players? Or, at the very least "tweeners?"

Agreed... Wholeheartedly.

Well the point being that each of the combos is only going to have one in the top six with the other seeing third line duty, which automatically improves our third line.

That being said, I know what you mean regarding Army, Brown and Steckel being more bottom six role players.

Wow Colby is a great guy but objectively what we've gotten so far is $3M bottom 6'er made of glass  :-\

Maybe his luck will improve next year...

Yeah nice guy and all, but when it comes down to it I'd rather he was more of a jerk if it meant he never missed a game and contributed.

Easily best player along the boards on the Leafs and probably nicest guy ever but my patience is running out. 3 million is a lot to waste on someone always on the sidelines.

It's been pretty hard for me to consider Armstrong a member of the team with all his injuries.  Unfortunately, I don't think he's been at full strength energy-wise since joining the team and now it's looking more and more doubtful that he'll ever really contribute.  Hopefully this gives the Leafs a chance to insert one of the young guys back into the line-up (this Rosehill + Orr stuff can't possibly go on).  This is looking more and more like another rebuilding year anyhow, so why not see we have with with Kadri?

Edit - I see that Boyce got the call.  So now we have Bozak, Crabb, and Boyce all in at once.  Beautiful.

I'm still hopeful his streak of bad luck can end, but there is much doubt. You look at the way a guy like Connolly could stay healthy, by perhaps playing a degree of caution and not getting caught.  But with Armstrong getting into the rough stuff is part of his game, I think there is some more doubt as to whether he is capable of playing that game anymore at 29 with all of these injuries.

I've also had it up to my ears with the Orr+Rosehill situation.  Dressing Aulie instead of one these guys when Steckel went out was the last straw, it seems like an admission that they aren't really NHL quality so WTF are they doing here?

The only good thing is that if Armstrong is to come back after his deal is done it will be at much reduced rate.

It makes it easier if you pretend that the Leafs pay him per tweet and get the hockey stuff thrown in for free.  I think it works out to about 13k per tweet...oh man I have way too much time on my hands.

In terms of his salary, yeah he is overpayed and injury prone but when he is in the lineup for a decent period he is a very good bottom six guy.  When he is not, we save cap room that we can use at the deadline to take a good player for a playoff push or take a bad contract to get a nice asset.
