I thought Marincin and Ozhiganov were the best defense pairing tonite.
Yeah Marty is looking fine out there. No brain cramps and he broke up a few plays I remember. I have no issues with him so far

I only saw 3rd period, I am used to the dramatic games. This for one make me think, that there is lot of work to be done, as defensive coverage was mostly random or undisciplined, maybe intuitive in bad sense. But they were able to hold on against very good team. Gardiner sometimes looks like golden retriever, who is happy to run anywhere, but doesnt knows why. But overall, I take it. Nice to have that little hope, that, they can score, when it matters.

I missed the 1st but the 2nd period was as good a road period as can be.  And, after the 2-minute surge by the Jets in the 3rd, they went back to playing their game, Andersen made some great stops, and they dictated play the rest of the way instead of trying to play defense for 20 minutes straight ... which this team is not set up to do.

Since they don't have lockdown abilities on D I think their best best when trying defend a lead in the 3rd is to try to keep on playing the possession game, but without any pinches.  Kind of a conservative but still offense-oriented game.

And I realy dislike Paul Maurice, who had not his best job here and now is trying to look so fancy with Jets. Just another coach, who never played a game.

I've always liked Paul Maurice.  And I don't think it's fair at all to peg the blame on him considering what was happening at the time.

Maurice has basically the same playing experience Babcock has.

OK, OK, he had tough position under incompetent GM, without clearly knowing, what is the long time plan. But I still think, he did not handled it well enough. That he is good coach, that he proved enough last years.

Good game by all four lines.  Brown and Gardiner continue to disappoint.
Particularly liked Kadri's contributions in both the OZ & DZ, with the tough assignment of going against the opposition's top shooter (Laine).

Freddie was solid, trying to at times see through a maze of traffic, but did the job of keeping his team in the game when the pressure was on.  Also, Zaltsev and Olzhiganov were a pleasure to watch on defence, and that Marner guy, hey does he have invisible wings on??!!

Kappy helped us forget about Nylander.  Kapanen was two-way solid and is not afraid to himself in the queue of play upfront.  Good job there Kappy.

GO LEAFS GO!

Man, can you imagine how many goals this team would score if they ever got PP's?

It's pretty amazing that a winning team with this much speed and skill, not to mention one completely devoid of grinders/enforcers, obtains so few PP opportunities.

The theory (amongst sports analysts/commentators) is because teams don't want to get too many penalties against the speedy & dangerous Leafs, by not hitting them as much as they should be hit.  Also, by being fleet of feet, the only way to truly stop them is by the grabbing, holding style -- the old-fashioned way -- subject to penalties.

Today's game and it's relative absence of enforcers (& grinders to an extent) has paved the way for many of the young talent to play with far less fear, thus making for a better performance both game-wise and skill-wise.  This also applies to generational players such as Crosby, Tavares, et al.

Our team was trash all those years. Our team under Babcock finished last!

Maurice's team was a single point away from the playoffs despite having the worst goaltending an NHL team could conceivably have. I think he was remarkable, given the circumstances, and has enjoyed a pretty nice amount of success with some pretty lacking teams.
