Leafs @ Lightning - Feb. 26th, 7:30pm - SNO, TSN 1050

Patrick Marleau, step right up! You've been chosen to be the next contestant to play "Who wants to go to Robidas Island?"

I hope he has more to give come playoff time because he sure looks like he's been coasting lately.

Some one did ask Babcock about the 4 on 3 deployment and he gave the answer I expected.

On the decision to keep the top power play unit off the ice to start the 4-on-3 that became a 5-on-3:

That 4-on-3 and then 5-on-3, we thought we?d hit the goalie once and then get our next group out. We didn?t want them to be tired. So then you think, ?Geez, I should?ve put those other guys out first.? If I put them out first and they were tired by the time we got to the 5-on-3, I would?ve said, ?Geez, why did I put them out first?? Anyway, I didn?t like it. How?s that? We didn?t score.

That's the thing about Marleau. Despite his advanced years and veteran presence he routinely stays out too long. So if you put him out there first, he'll stand around taking unobstructed slapshots from bad angles until you drag him of the ice.

That?s basically San Jose?s PP strategy.

Yeah, like you I figured that was what he was going to say. It's a weird strategy though. He's basically saying, "well, I figured we weren't going to score on the 4-on-3 so I was just waiting for it to become a 5-on-3 to put my good players out".

I don?t think he expected Leivo/Marleau to be so in/effective at not forcing a stoppage.

They were too busy trying to score a goal. The irony here is that in all this complaining I don't actually think that unit was completely ineffective. I mean if it was they would have lost possession of the puck and been able to change.

Other than Marleau's potshots, I liked what they did. I did want them to start cycling in new players after the first minute though, especially when Reilly started to flag. I know Marleau takes a lot of pride in how he can shoot (he's really good at not getting blocked by skaters) and he hasn't had a good one go in lately while his linemates have lit it up.

Was that the shift that Rielly hit 2 posts?

So that turtle neck guy sucks! What a useless game. I thought his body language sucked too. I don't think he wants to be here.

GEEZ LOUSEEEZ you get paid to damn much $ to make crap ass decision like that!

I don't like throwing away opportunities and I feel there was some fundamental lapses last night. I want first place! Let's finish first and win the god damn STANLEY CUP! Let's play our best players on a 5 on 3, let's not chip the puck to the other team in OT, let's not take massive slap shots on the PP when the goalie has a clean look, let's take a serious approach to a shootout attempt (JVR).

Zaitsev went up the boards with the puck to clear the zone. In 3-on-3. Directly to a Tampa player.
Hated that play hope he never plays in OT again.
To be fair, that is his go-to play in just about every situation. But, definitely...never should be out there in 3 on 3 again. Geez.
