Leafs @ Panthers - Nov. 22nd, 7:00pm - SNO, TSN 1050

Enh. The way the Leafs' played most of the night, they probably didn't even deserve the single point, never mind both.

I disagree.  Bjugstad's first goal was pure luck, and the Leafs played a dominant 3rd period.  Rielly got robbed by the post a couple of times.

I was absolutely shocked that the leg tackle on Auston in alone wasn't called. Seemed like a no-brainer, completely eliminated the scoring chance.

Not sure if I missed something but nothing wrong on that Matthews breakaway wasn't a penalty. Got the puck first.

A hockey game consists of 3 20 minute periods!  Leafs only played well in 1 of those 20 minute periods!

Watched it again, wow he actually did get the puck first. Thing is, the tackle made it a 3-on-2 the other way.

The were outclassed in the 1st, even in the 2nd IMO.

The way they played the first 40 minutes, they should have been down 3 or 4 - and, against a better team, they would have been. They didn't earn the point tonight. It was not at all deserved. They gained it because they were playing a bad team.

Even if you touch the puck first you're not usually allowed to deliberately tackle another player's legs.

Yeah, it's a weird idea that apparently tripping penalties just no longer apply in that second after a play like that.

Good luck at that Matthews trip:

Obviously, the refs don't have the luxury of looking at it frame by frame though.

I thought the rule was if you get the puck first on a play like that it's not tripping but apparently that was changed in 2014:

Rule 57 ? Tripping

The rule relating to "Tripping" will be revised to specifically provide that a two minute minor penalty will be assessed when a defending player "dives" and trips an attacking player with his body/arm/shoulder, regardless of whether the defending player is able to make initial contact with the puck.

But, in situations where a penalty shot might otherwise be appropriate, if the defending player "dives" and touches the puck first (before the trip), no penalty shot will be awarded. (In such cases, the resulting penalty will be limited to a two-minute minor penalty for tripping.)

So yeah either way, a pretty big blown call by the refs there. I don't understand how that doesn't get called, it's not like the refs weren't watching the play there.

Two games in a row the officials have totally screwed the Leafs.

Why isn?t their a widespread demand for more consistency?

This is a billion dollar business, gross incompetence is unacceptable.

Playing even with one of the bottom 5 teams in the league in an awfully low bar to measure from.

The question is whether they deserved even a point in tonight's game.  I think they certainly did.  I didn't claim that it's some kind of landmark achievement.
