Aaand Connolly blocks what would have been a goal by Bozak.

Looked like Connolly lifted his legs up thinking he was going to get hit with the shot.

Yeah, it did look like he was trying to get out of the way. Strange way to do it though. :)

It's more imperative that we get some defensemen.

I don't know if that's really true. I think the talent is there on the blueline, they just need some better direction from the guys behind the bench and more help from the forwards. It's the team's overall defensive play that's been the problem, not the talent level on the blueline.

Either way, the real #1 need for this team is an improvement in net. Without that, all other changes become irrelevant. Whether that comes from an improved Reimer or someone who isn't under contract with the Leafs past this season, I don't care, as long as it happens.

You start a retired Jim Carey versus this Leaf bunch and I guarantee you at some point the play by play guy will say "He's putting on a goalie clinic in net!"

You could probably start Jim Carrey and still have the same result.

Only 6 active players in the NHL that have played a playoff game for Toronto. Anyone know them all ?

Sullivan, Antropov, Ponikarovsky, Kaberle... I can't think of the rest.

Man, that is depressing.

Stajan and . . . I haven't been able to figure out the 6th.

So you are saying we need less Erasing and  more Grabbo Bell?

No, it's imperative that Burke get a big center and another big winger on this club.

It's more imperative that we get some defensemen.

Big centre and winger much more important IMO

Sorry, but that's just laughable.  Defensemen and of course, a competent goaltender.

If we have guys capable of actually cycling and maintaining posession of the puck it'll make our defensemen's jobs a hell of a lot easier and by proxy the goalie's. Our d corps just needs educating by RC and they'll get better. They were the highest scoring d corps in the league for a while to boot. No system hurt them immensely imho. Shattered confidence after a endless streams of od man rushes against and then the natural gaffes that get magnified because they are always pressured so much by being hemmed in their zone so much.

I could just imagine what was going thru his head. " Oh s*** Bozak is getting ready to shoot. Hope it doesn't hit me. I might get hurt".

Phaneuf has to go.  And sure, the goalie.

I disagree. Like the rest of the blueline, Phaneuf really just needs some guidance from his coaching staff, some support from his forwards and a better (read "any") system to play in.
