Leafs @ Rangers - Feb. 1st, 7:00pm - TSN4, Fan 590

Can someone explain to me why Ray Ferraro isn't our full time colour man?  The TSN broadcasts are so much better.

Leafs aren?t even playing that well. Rangers just playing much much worse.

They're not playing as well as last night, but, they're playing pretty well for the 2nd of back-to-backs, and on the road.

Rogers negotiated a better broadcasting deal than Bell.

Dermott has made a couple of risky moves going up the middle in getting it out, but luck has been our side lately after a 2-month vacay.  In general, he's playing like a Wild Ass of a Man.

The Leafs really need to make sure Andersen gets a healthy number of games off for the rest of the season. Especially with McBackup playing as well as he is and with a playoff spot literally already locked up.

We?re getting away with a lot of ?fun? plays that won?t work against actual teams.

Quite right.  Babcock will be conflicted.

Absolutely this.

Tampa is in an interesting situation too as Vasilevskiy is on pace to play 60+ this season, but his max was 50 last year. With Boston breathing down their necks, I doubt they rest him very much as 1st place is way more valuable than us jumping to 2nd.

Still lots of really good things happening in general:
All defensemen are mobile puck movers, which makes it really easy to get the pucks to the forwards. The 4th line is no longer a liability (a la Boyle+Kapanen), which means they don?t need sheltering, which means the top lines don?t need to eat any particularly sub-optimal shifts, which makes them fresher attackers throughout the game, which really pushes the opponents to cheat for goals, which opens them up to Bozak?s line running over their lower lines.

Saturday in Boston is going to be fascinating if they stick with a lineup that looks like this.

NHL is off to an awesome start on the goaltender interference calls.  This was called a good goal in real and AND after replay.

Slightly afraid to mention this but McElhinney has looked good the past little while and even better tonight without defensemen jamming their sticks or butts into him.

Yeah but what about when McLeod ran into the Leafs bench and knocked out Marner and Nylander during the 2nd period?

Your analysis is chess.  I'll just be ambling now back over to the Old Cracker Barrel at the general store and my trusty checkerboard.

Gord & Ray on TSN are consistently the ones I most enjoy. They're able to talk intelligently about the game, do it without too much homerism or excessive hate, and don't resort to too many cliches. I'd happily take them over any other pair that works the Leafs games these days.
