Give Carlyle credit.  Howard probably didn't have a book on Santorelli, and Santo has shown some good offensive poise.  Nice change-up.

Santorelli has been very good in the shootout in his career. 42.9% heading into tonight.

Had no idea.  The guy has been a great pickup.

And you know, Booth looked good tonight too, first time I've really noticed him.

Not sure why they inserted Kozun to play 1:30 or whatever.

mirtle: That was the third most lopsided game in the NHL this season at even strength. Leafs finished with 26% possession.

Urrrgly.

Winnik had 5:01 in SH time tonight. Holland was at 4:31.

That's probably not something they can do too often.

mirtle: Toss that Nashville game and Reimer's save percentage is actually .921. So there's that.

Coming in for mop up duty that night really hurts Reimer's numbers for the season.

Nope. He's "awful". Deal with it. Never play him. He's the red headed step child of backups. Play the guy once a month but only if you really have to.

Poor guy. Hutchinson, Darling and a bunch of other unknown backups are seeing the net with much more frequency than Reimer. Why? Carlyle, I guess.

He's T-37th in games started out of 69 goalies with a start this season.

Hey there's Phil. Imagine we win this?

Imagine. Part of me hopes they don't. I think they really need to feel the full brunt of this pathetic performance, and a win would take some of the weight off of it.

I really didn't think it was that bad of a performance, esp. coming off a big win the night before. Give them some credit once and a while. They played good enough to get the 'W'. Reimer was the difference, but that doesn't discount all the on ice battles it took to win this one....

Wasn't that bad a performance? They put up the 3rd worst single game possession numbers in the league this season. They spent 3/4 of 5 on 5 time in their defensive zone. They were outshot by more than 20 shots, out attempted by close to 50! The only player on the team that deserves any credit is Reimer. They were completely outclassed, outplayed and outworked. I honestly don't know what game you're watching or what shade of blue and white your glasses are tinted, but, man, you're the only person here that's even suggesting they weren't that bad or that they deserve any credit for tonight.

In fairness at no point did any of the Leafs leave the ice mid-shift to go get a hot dog, actively switch allegiances and score on their own goal like a wrestling villain or contract ebola. So, really, was it all bad?

There were definitely some mitigating circumstances for the leafs in this one.  Like back to back nights, first game on the road in a while, their opponent hadn't played since sunday.  But they played awful.  Most of the time they couldn't even touch the puck.  If you played this game 10 times over the leafs would lose 9 of them.  Fortunately for them this was the 1 out of 10.

Fair enough, but when you say they played awful, let's not forget they were also playing one of the hottest, top tier teams in the league right now. I mean, are we really resigned to thinking they should be playing better than they are against teams like Detroit?

Let's see what they can do on Saturday against this same squad before we all announce how crappy they're playing.
