Very good road game.

Probably one of the best 3rd periods we've seen in awhile too. Held Detroit to just 5 shot on goal. Just 7 shot attempts for Detroit in the 3rd at even-strength. The Leafs didn't have a ton of shots either, but we had the puck in the offensive end for most of that period.

Well that's a crappy end to a pretty good game.

Yeah.  OTOH we could have lost in the SO, which would have been both crappy and gimmicky at the same time.

This is the sort of game where the first line really needs to be able to find any other gear aside from just beating the other team with speed. We've seen it before with Kessel but when a really good defenseman takes away his space he really needs to find another way to be effective.

Well, he did try a slapshot....

That was a decent road game.  Loved the crowd, lots of give and take.  I have never once felt threatened as a fan in Detroit, it's just good rivalry energy.

Franson was really bad today.  That icing play was just comical.  He just stood there.  He didn't bother to get off the ice.  He didn't go after the puck.  He just stood there.  And when the play finally ended he doesn't miss a shift moving forward.

The other thing I don't get about the guy is on plays where the Leafs are facing a single forechecker who is being aggressive on the puck carrier.  Phaneuf is on the boards looking to pass the puck to Franson...but Franson skates in parallel with Phaneuf so that the Detroit defender is directly in the lane of a pass and so Phaneuf has to retreat all the way behind the net with the puck.  A few times the Leafs struggled to get the puck out of the zone after that and it was all avoidable if Franson either came toward Phaneuf or changed his positioning to allow for a pass.

I mean it was only two games and I don't see him that often, but I don't recall Zetterberg being THAT dominant, guy was a beast this weekend.

He did win the Conn Smyth award a few years back

I understand that Zetterburg is a great player. The one think I dont get is why he did not get hit, smashed, checked over the past two games. He is not that over fast or sneaky. Any one

The redwings enforcers scared the leafs and protected Zetterberg, making it impossible to smash him.
