Leafs @ Sabres - Nov. 29th, 7:30pm - LeafsTV, TSN 1050

Wow. The Sabres were sweet little angels. Only 1PP for the Leafs.

The Leafs always have a huge PP disadvantage when they play in Buffalo. The Sabres always seem to get a late power play too.

So the question is, will Carlyle sit Ranger and his two holding calls or will it simply be Holland who has to rot on the bench after his one infraction?

That last one was just a bad call.  I didn't think Ranger played that badly.

I didn't think he was all that bad either. I would however like to see Rielly again and if that knocks out Ranger, so be it.

I didn't mean to suggest that Ranger played badly, just relating it to the Holland benching (who wasn't playing badly either and was victimized by a somewhat weak call as well).

His coach didn't seem to think it was a bad call. Carlyle called it a blatant hold.

mirtle: Carlyle on Ranger's penalty: "It was a blatant hold by our defenceman. You can't take your hand off the stick and grab the player."

But that is also the same coach that said this: http://www.tmlfans.ca/community/index.php?topic=2048.msg154625#msg154625

Are we sure he was talking about the second one?  I didn't think that looked like a penalty?

Hey, I'm not saying I agree with Coach Inconsistent - just that he didn't think it was a weak call, and that it could influence his lineup decisions tonight. So, that probably means Gardiner's out.

Ranger just cost Smith is spot in the lineup.

I thought Smith's lineup decisions were this:

Score a point - get demoted to the AHL
Play <5 minutes - get promoted to the second line
Play 10 minutes - scratched the next night

The diving pokecheck on JVR was definitely not a penalty. Puck first, all the way. Great play.

Unfortunate though.

He hit the puck about the same time he took out his legs, which would not make it first.

Carlyle thought it should have been a penalty shot.  Called it a "missed call".

From what I saw, he got the puck first. And I thought it was pretty clear. It was a great defensive play.

Assuming he did get the puck first, then it's not a penalty per the rules. But I have to agree with the play-by-play guys, it's a stupid rule. If you trip a player, it's a tripping penalty. Not sure why touching or not touching the puck has any bearing on being a penalty or not.

I hear ya, but then what is the defender supposed to do in those situations? If you take that out, you take away a guy being able to make that great, diving swipe/poke-check kinda play.
