JVR's pretty good.

Yeah, have we laughed about that in a while? If not, Schenn for JvR ... LOL

Probably one of the top 5 trades in recent history for us. Arguably top 3.

He reminds me a little bit of old dave andreychuk  parked in front out there like that with his nifty mittens.

And thankfully looks nothing like him when he skates

P. Holland TOI 3:35
C. Ashton TOI 1:24

Any reason for that?  McLaren spent 15 minutes in the bin and still played only one second less than Holland.

With all the penalties the 4th line didn't really get a chance to play. That's why their times were lower than their usual low times.

Ah, good call.

Ah, good call.

Both teams were essentially just playing 3 lines too, especially after McLaren and Neil were booted out.

mirtle: Leafs were outshot at even strength with every player on the ice but two: Kadri and Liles. #freeliles

mirtle: Even more impressive? Kadri's zone start tonight was 15%!

It was refreshing watching the top line play effectively for most of the night after enduring Bozak's version of the line get dominated and hemmed in more often than not. Kadri brings an element of creativity and awareness that Bozak simply doesn't possess, and one of the ways that comes through is in his first passes out of the defensive end.

The Kadri part doesn't really surprise me; I noticed that he's been hanging back in the neutral zone to give the D support on the breakout.

Loved the break-out pass by Kadri for Gunnarsson. Everytime Bozak goes down and Kadri gets an extended look on the top line, he performs great. You can see the rise in his confidence level.

All healthy (except Bolland), I go with this:

Van Riemsdyk-Kadri-Kessel
Lupul-Bozak-Kulemin
Raymond-Smith-Clarkson
McClement-Holland-D'Amigo

Loved what I saw from D'Amigo last night. Switch in Ashton for Holland or D'Amigo from time-to-time when you need a bit more toughness.

It was certainly not the full 60 minutes of effort but enough was given for a win.
It appears the stetch passes are part of the system by Carlyle since they consistently turn back to this tactic.  I think he knows they are dangerous but we are actually pretty lucky with them so he allows when possible.
I thought the breakouts from our zone were great in the 1st with a forward receiving a pass just above the hash marks along the boards.  Then arcing out and skating it up the middle.  It was as if I was witnessing some structure.

Pfft.  Kessel performs better with Bozak...unless you look at stats of course.
