Phaneuf is not an offensive defenseman at all anymore.

Weird eh?

You'd never guess from his shots and lack of offensive poise with the puck that he could've posted 20, 17 and 17 goals in consecutive season.

You think he ever practices his shot anymore? He should.

I've been over this before, but he posted those totals in a) seasons after first lockout with elevated PP's around the league and b) with averaging around 5:00 on the PP per game.

With the Leafs, while he still gets #1 unit PP time, the PP is hardly ever set up to filter through a one-timer by him so he hardly gets the opportunities anymore that he had in Calgary.  As a result his shots are way down.  2010-11 was really the last time he shot the puck at a similar rate to when he was in Calgary.  He had 39 PP goals in his first 3 seaons, he just does not get those opportunities anymore.

His offensive production was fine really right up to the end of the lockout shortened season.  I don't think it's fair to say he's "not an offensive defenseman at all anymore" though, his offense will never repeat those seasons in Calgary because the factors for that production don't exist anymore.  He still puts up points but he's asked to do so in a much more physically taxing environment than he had to do so in Calgary, and with probably half the offensive opportunities that he was afforded there.

The secondary scoring was there again tonight and was a big key to getting the win. Holland last night scores a SHG, tonight he sets up Santorelli for one!

Leave it to the Leafs to hand the sens their first regulation loss of the season...it never gets old beating them!

I've been impressed so far this season with the improved penalty kill. If they keep it up, it could have a positive impact on a number of games.

If.

Reimer is turning out to be a better goaltender than bernier this year. I just wish Carlyle would finally recognize it.

The refs make up a too many men penalty on the Leafs now.  This is BS.

This is awful reffing.

I still don't understand why the officials had to go upstairs to review the first Leafs goal that not only went in the net but also clearly remained there.

I thought it was because no goal was called on the play.  So they needed upstairs to overrule that.  Just what I assumed anyway

Just browsing NHL.com stats:

The Leafs are leading the league in hits.  Leading the league by a healthy margin in takeaways, which surprises me.  They're actually above average in faceoffs, at 51.2%, also to my surprise.  6th in blocked shots.  12th worst in giveaways (I expected worse).  11th in PK%, a vast improvement thus far.  The gap between shots for and shots against is below average, but is only a gap of 2.4 shots/gm.

Some decent numbers to see thus far.

Oh, okay.  I was watching  in the background but wasn't able to actively listen to the commentary.

I guess it was just for confirmation as there was no call on the ice.

The reffing sucked last night. At least 3 very bad calls on the Leafs. I know what team they bet on.
Actually posting to say it is really great to see Holland rounding into the form Spott said the man has. He is growing in leaps and bounds and I wouldnt mind him seeing a shift or two with Phil in the near future. Has to work on the faceoffs as it is a weak spot. If we can get a few more of these young guys to step up then I am more optimistic than in a long time. Leivo scored a beauty last night on one of two great setups.

Somebody tell Anaheim to let us know if they have any other first-round draftees they want to send our way.

He's finally showing what a number of us saw in him last season, and, not surprisingly, it's at least in part due to the fact that he's actually getting ice time.

The Leafs & Sens standing in solidarity together at the War Memorial ceremony was classy, indeed.

?It?s a little unusual to meet and get together in the morning and pay our respects, but obviously it was a great thing to do and I think both clubs would do it again,? said Reimer.

...said Turris.?It was really important and it was great that the Leafs joined us.?
