Per Chris Johnston, Clarkson has 1 G, 1 A in last 19 GP.

10 games without a point.

Still on 2nd PP unit.

He's on an 82-game pace to improve by a whopping 8 points from his disaster last year.  Worst contract in the NHL.

I see now you mean if he had played 82 games last season.

So last season's 82 game pace was worst of his career.  Sad thing is this season he's on pace right now for 23 points.  If you include last season he's had 3 seasons of finishing with less points than that (22 once, 18 once, last season's 15 point pace).

So he's had 3 seasons where combined he has 174 GP and a .54 PPG or a 44 point 82-game pace.

The rest of his career is 358 GP with a .28 PPG, or a 23 point 82-game pace.

So for 33% of his career he's been a 44 point player, the rest...

You have to blame the cap on Poo Poo Poulin and Loseille. That is why they are history amongst  other reasons.
It seems we put on blinders on what transpired when we obtained Clarkson, he was being sought after and actually turned down more $$$ to sign in T.O.  This is the problem with Free Agency, you usually overpay for the privilege of overpaying?vicious cycle?no?

At the time I liked Clarkson, had grit to his game and was noticible (for he right reasons) on his shifts with the Devils.. They can't all be winners.  At least its not a Yashin or a DiPeitro

Dave Nonis' cap management has been downright terrible.

This is pretty bad:

@mirtle

MacArthur-Grabovski-Kulemin easily the best even strength line the Leafs have had since I covered the team. They got nothing for all three.

And they actually paid Grabovski to play elsewhere.

Unless you are one of the *top* teams in the league and a legit shot at the cup, you can not let ufa's leave for free.  The leafs of the last 10 years - they had no business letting ufa's walk.  Either sign an extension or trade....there is no other option.  It's just horrible/bad/inept asset management.

That goes for our ufa's this year as well.

Other poor moves include the waste of picks for Bolland, a compliance buyout of a one year deal and ending up with a Gleason buyout on the books for 4 years as a result and Clarkson of course.

Bernier was a good deal and I liked the Polak deal, but opinion is divided on that one with more seemingly being against it. Holland and the some of the scrap heap UFA signings that have been ok.

Very underwhelming stuff from Nonis since he took over.

I said a little while ago that, outside of Bernier, his higher profile moves have basically done more harm than good. His lower profile moves and his RFA contracts have largely been on the positive side, but, they've also largely been of the low impact variety, too.

I honestly don't understand why this isn't standard practice.  They've never been remotely close to contending.  They should have at least been managing their assets better.
