Leafs @ Sharks - Mar. 3rd, 10:30pm - SNO, Fan 590

I only watched the first two periods of this one, and obviously they weren't the primary cause of the loss or anything like that, but the non-Kerfoot 3rd lines continue to struggle I think.

Come playoff time if Kerfoot isn't the 3C that will be a very big problem.

Hopefully Mikheyev's return will make it so that Kerfoot can move back there.

Yeah that's what I was thinking:

Hyman-Matthews-Marner
Mikheyev-Tavares-Nylander
Clifford-Kerfoot-Kapanen
Engvall-Gauthier-Spezza

I still don't really get why they aren't trying to use Engvall or Malgin or even Kapanen again as stop-gaps on the 2nd line though. The positives of having Kerfoot there really don't seem to be outweighing the negative impact it has lower in the line-up.

The line really doesn't seem to gel as much with Kerfoot on the wing.  He really seems to play better up the middle.

This would've made it 3-3 midway through the third, after Kane scores on the 2-on-1. Great goal-tending performances.

Yeah like if that line was crushing it it would be a different story, but I don't think that's really been the case since the first few games Kerfoot was moved there. And that was about 2 months ago now.

Well done, one and all.

I live in Sweden so I got up at 4:30 to watch this, now I'm off to work. Not quite the start to the day I was hoping for. Oh well, let's hope for a better effort on Thursday.

Welcome, good effort! Nice to see more Europeans around these parts

Our Europeeps are awesome.

(Can we still call the UK part of Europe ... at least geographically?)

Curious as to why Campbell would start this game and not one of the back to backs.  Perhaps he plays 2 out of the 3?
The plan is 2 out of 3 for Campbell.  Leafs 5-2 or 7 goals will be scored.
Called the 5-2 but for the wrong team..to be honest I had a gut on that one, but have to support the home team.  However 7 goals were scored.  ;)

Thanks, I do.
I really enjoy the GDTs. Makes great company when I'm watching alone.
Now that I've popped my posting cherry I'll be sure to give my two cents every now and then.

Yeah, I don't understand this either. Kerfoot is OK when he has the puck but he loses almost every single puck battle along the boards, often in dramatic fashion. Engvall is more capable along the boards and is deceptively good with the puck, but a lot of his skill seems a bit wasted on the lower lines. First thing I'd do is try Engvall with Tavares and put Kerfoot back on the third line.

They could even try Spezza up with Tavares. Ultimately you hope Soup is back and can be effective by the playoffs.

As for last nights game...that second period was abysmal. Haven't seen the Leafs look that bad against a non playoff team in a long time.

Just wrote the same thing at the Athletic. Put Engvall up with JT and get Kerfoot back at 3C
Makes sense until Soup is served up
