Trade szn

Engvall's getting waived. Or, if there's a great deal to be had on Mikheyev (pending UFA) I'd consider it.

We are compliant if we run a 21-man roster, but I still expect some movement to give us the largest, cap-flexible/banking roster.

Compliant yeah, but with only 6 defencemen. That'd be an issue.

Engvall probably isn't necessarily on the roster now although I think his penalty killing is something we would miss.

We do still have Kampf, Mikheyev, Kerfoot (although right now he seems more top 6 bound so would have increased 5on5 responsibilities) and Marner (I would like to see less of him on the PK to balance his minutes better)

They ran with 6 for a lot of last year. Always have the emergency call up and Sandin is still waiver exempt.

We need to keep the Giraffe in our Zoo.

No line projections yet?

Ritchie-Matthews-Marner
Kerfoot-Tavares-Nylander
Mikheyev-Kampf-Kase
Bunting-Spezza-Simmonds
Thornton-Matthews-Marner
Vesey-Tavares-Nylander
Mikheyev-Kerfoot-Hyman
Barabanov-Spezza-Simmonds

A lot of things could be moved around but this is how I'd like to see it started.

edit: added how we started last season for comparison.

Woof. I'm really not sure about that bottom 6. The fact that this team seemingly doesn't have any 22 or 23 year old guys from in-house beating down the door to be on that third line is a real weak spot.

I'm wondering if it's Engvall, Kase, and Mikheyev fighting for spots with Brooks and Robertson.

It's really a disappointment that the Marlies couldn't provide a couple of guys on ELCs to help out their cap situation in the bottom six.

Praying Bozak gets something stupid like $4mil to make me less angry about how much better the 3rd line would look with him on it.

I think the 4th line could provide a lot of energy and a little more consistent goal scoring from the bottom-6 than we're used to though.

Where is Robertson in all this?

Kase may not even play though.  He's only played 9 games over the last two seasons.  Seems to me he is as likely to head to LTI as is to play.

It's possible that's how his season ends but the Leafs wouldn't have signed him if he wasn't healthy enough to start the season.

Also Kase played 58 games in 19/20. The 6 you're seeing was just from Boston, but he played 49 with Anaheim prior to being traded there.

On the Marlies pushing for a spot on the big club. Competition for spots is a good thing.

that bottom 6 looks terrible...maybe get 35 goals out of all 6 of them?
