That also resulted in him being yanked after less than 17 minutes, 3 goals on 5/6 shots and that could be all she wrote on his Calgary career.

Gillis issues a statement indicating there are four suitors for Luongo, Nonis counters by leaking to Dreger that the Leafs are close to a deal for Kipper.
Surely not?

I hope it's all a smokescreen/media-generated BS and, 48 hours from now, neither are Leafs.

As for his stats this season, I'm very willing to take the chance that it has more to do with the team/atmosphere he's in right now. Even Iginla was on pace to score less than 60 points in a full season with the Flames. If you get Kipper's competitive juices flowing his play will improve.
Again, this is all dependent on the price being right and Kipper actually wanting to come to Toronto.

I think the cap hit of 5.8 mill for next season is poor cap management for a back up though.
CarltonTheBear said:Maybe not, but the Leafs do have a ton of cap space next season (especially if/when they buyout Komisarek). So it wouldn't cripple them. The Flames could also hold onto some as well.
Also, I would make this deal under the assumption that Kipper's play improves once he leaves Calgary. If he struggles as a Leaf this season and/or can't beat out Scrivens in training camp next seasom you waive him and assign him to the AHL. Odds are he retires instead of reporting. Especially for the $1.5mil he's due.

WhatIfGodWasALeaf said:If they did want to carry three goalies re: your point about Scrivens.
Rosters expand after the deadline I believe and at some point, possibly in the summer, waivers are not in effect, so Scrivens could be assigned to the Marlies then, no?
The difficult part in that scenario would probably be convincing Scrivens to sign up again in the summer when I think he is a RFA with the promise of being third string.
If you take experience out of the decision and honestly it's impact is probably negligible, I see almost no reason to make the trade.
