Leafs trade Kadri+ to Colorado for Barrie+

Johnsson and Kapanen's 5-on-5 scoring numbers were a step above but they also played a lot with Matthews while Kerfoot's primary 5-on-5 linemates were Tyson Jost and J.T. Compher.

What's your resource for linemates? Because mine has Kerfoot's most common linemates as Jost and Wilson and him getting a legit amount of time with Mackinnon.

Naturalstattrick. Although I missed Colin Wilson's name, so him and Jost were who Kerfoot played the most with. Compher was 3rd. MacKinnon 4th.

Johnsson  82gp, 46pts.
Kappy 133gp, 54 pts.
Kerfoot 157gp, 85pts.

Like I said, that's with Kerfoot getting twice as much PP time as Kapanen and Johnsson got combined last year.
And Johnsson and Kappy played with Matthews, big deal. I think you're really reaching about Kappy and Johnsson being irked because you would be. It's not like he's getting a million more.

All I said was I hope they're happy with their deals. If they are, great!

One thing I'll be curious about is to see if Kerfoot got the same signing bonuses, or if Dubas reserves that for players who developed here. I'm betting it's the latter.
No signing bonus for Kerfoot according to CapFriendly
Why not? I wonder if someone told them to tone it down on the signing bonus', none for Ceci either?

and that you'd be a little irked. I don't see them having your issue.

Right. I would be. I'm not them. I didn't think that needed specifying beyond saying that I didn't know how they felt before the thing about me.

A stray thought here but it's a little worth mentioning that of Kerfoot, Johnsson and Kapanen, Kerfoot is the oldest and arguably the guy I'd take last if I had to choose between the three of them yet shows up and immediately gets the most dollars/term. I hope Kap and Johnsson are happy with their deals but that's something that might irk me a little in their shoes.

It's funny but I actually had the exact same independent thought when I saw the money and term for Kerfoot and knew it was more than both Johnsson and Kapanen. This is a first for me and Nik.

Just for kicks, here's what those 3 signed for vs. what EvolvingWild's cap projections had them on the term they got:

Kerfoot -- $3.5mil -- $4.2mil

Johnsson -- $3.4mil -- $3.7mil

Kapanen -- $3.2mil -- $2.9mil

So Kerfoot also gets the signing bonus treatment.
Still not on CapFriendly but I'll take this as truth. Leafs paying up front with all these guys. Anything about Ceci?

So $10.4M for Marner x 7 and we call it a day. Did Dubas ever work fast when July 1st hit? I am pretty surprised and pleased with the end result.

Would you rather have last year's roster or this year's? I would take Barrie over any of Zaitsev/Hainsey/Gardiner so I will go with this year's roster. I also think Kerfoot is a very capable 3C and to be honest, Kadri didn't do much last year. Kadri really screwed up the last couple years and it cost us dearly, I am okay losing him.

I think if you were able to compare last year?s roster with this year?s .....at the beginning of last season , most people would pick last year?s roster. Knowing what we saw this past season and not knowing what will happen next season , you?d likely gravitate toward this year?s team being better . Did I lose anyone there ?  :P

I think you just gave me temporal whiplash.

I'm kind of torn. I think Barrie isn't as good as Gardiner, Kerfoot obviously isn't as good as Kadri, Ceci isn't as good as Ziatsev, and a Marlie isn't as good as Hainsey, so I don't see the team necessarily better on those fronts; however, a full year of Muzzin and Nylander is massive, so that's the offset.

So I figure:
1. The leafs aren't as good as they were to start the playoffs last season (gardiner's health and Kadri's braincramp notwithstanding)
2. The leafs are better than they were to start the regular season last year (Dermott and Hyman's injuries notwithstanding).

..but, are far better positioned for cap structure going into the next few seasons.
