I don't get how Kessel can be so good on breakaways during the game but so bad in the shootout.

Too much time to think about things in the shootout. On an in game breakaway, there's still a guy behind him and such. Enough to distract him and keep him from out thinking himself.

Somehow I have a hard time believing that Kessel can out-think himself, or anybody else.  The guy operates on pure instinct.

Didn't deserve to win that game in the slightest.

I disagree.  The PK played at such a high level that their effort deserved 2 points.  Kessel really should be apologizing for that turnover.  It cost us a point.

The PK earned the single point. The rest of the 45+ minutes were complete disaster.

No even strength goals in 4 games and counting..

That was disgusting.  Worst game I've ever seen.  Bunch of kids playing street hockey play with more hockey sense.

Are you sure you're not hyperbolizing a wee bit? The Boston loss was wayyyyy worse.

In game, maybe, but, in the shootout, not so much. Otherwise, he'd be better than a 30% career shootout guy. With his skills, he should be close to 50% like Parise.

I'd say the game against Vancouver was the worst the Leafs have played this season, and by a reasonable margin.

From start to finish, this one was just as bad. Minnesota just isn't as good as Vancouver.

According to sportsclubstats.com, look what the difference four wins could make.
If the Leafs go:
  • 33-25-7 96.8%
  • 29-29-7 15.9%

Yeah that's what bothered me, it was like losing to a bunch of halfwits.

This kind of game is hard to call.

They played that game a bit like NJ from a few years back IMO.

Played pretty good D (especially the PK), got an opportunistic goal from the special teams and had great goaltending.

Outside of that, there were turnovers galore (Kessel's being the worst), too many penalties taken and very little offensive presence from the forwards.

This team is like Jekyll and Hyde: some nights it's high flying offence and tons of goals. Other nights they disappear and can't even get a hold of the puck.

Defence has been suspect all year. Forwards have scored a lot in some games and practically nothing in others (usually against the better teams). The one constant has been fantastic goaltending.

They need to get their #$%^ together. Bozak and Bolland will help but I think a top 2 D-man is in order before the deadline passes.

His had the worst result, but about half the team is fortunate their glaring just-as-bad turnovers didn't end up in the net as well.

there is no flow to their game...other than that second period in Boston, i haven't seen the leafs sustain any continued pressure on anyone.
