Leivo traded to Vancouver for Michael Carcone

Not a fan of his play or work ethic, but it certainly seemed he was a likeable teammate, and if he gets more minutes in Vancouver, then it should be good for his career.

I think sometimes as leaf fans we tend to overvalue anything we give up (Leipsic, Carter Ashton, Corrado). I think Leivo fits in this mould.

I like Leivo better than Ennis. He seems to understand the defensive game/positioning better and has used his body effectively, especially this year. That said, I understand the move.
They're building the Leafs of a few seasons ago. How funny in a sad way would it be if Leivo is healthy scratched for long stretches?

I think if Ennis had not picked up his game in the way he has the last 8 games that it might have been him moving on.

Key point about using his body effectively.  I saw a lot of value in Leivo and he was one of the more effective players along the walls deep in offensive zone who cycled the puck well.
If this team has thoughts about going deep into the playoffs, or even a series for that matter, they need players of this nature that will grind and help wear down the opposing D.  Let's face it, Hyman is truly our only heavy forechecker/grinder on this roster and for me, that is not enough. Your PP isn't going to carry you through the playoffs.

To me there's gotta be a way Dubas could get some kind of pick for Leivo.  He's quite good IMO.  At least a 6th rounder.  Something.  The guy they got seems like he's already had a few good shots.  I guess there is the outside chance he could still do something.  I just would have wanted someone younger in the whole development process.

It's good to see the organization treating the players well, though.  I will say that.

I agree that we would have been better off with a draft pick and I concur with the observations that JL was a decent fourth line player who was defensively proficient on a team that needs help in that aspect of the game.

The odds of a low round pick being much more than AHL depth, which is what they got, probably aren't significant enough to mention.

How about a 4th line of Ennis/Goat/Marchment?

This move is more about rewarding Leivo for being a good soldier the last couple seasons while freeing up the needed roster spot. You can't blame him for wanting to be moved to a team where he would get more ice time and prevent his NHL career from being further marginalized.
Good on Dubas for accommodating him!
If Leivo hadn't have reached out this summer, it's probably someone like the Goat or Marincin being the odd man out instead.

Best of luck to Leivo in Vancouver.  Hope he plays regularly and finds the net, neither of which he got to experience much with the Leafs.

I like this line!

Sniped a nice goal in his first game as a Canuck.

It still seems strange that we gave away a guy with his size, skill-set and strong possession numbers.

But... The goat!

Watched some of the Calgary/Vancouver matchup last night, Leivo with a goal and he seems to fit right in.  Looks content and happy playing there and good for him.  Too bad he never really had that opportunity with the Leafs.
