Lombardi to Phoenix

Getting the injury he had was pretty tough stuff after making his comeback from the head injury, I think he'll do well back in Phoenix, good luck to him.

Couldn't really expect to get much more for him in the trade, interesting that Burke's influence is seen with the first use of this rule.

The Leafs are essentially swaping picks for the 4th round in 2013 with Phoenix, because the Leafs gave up their fourth in the deal that sent Lombardi here.

I read the condition was that Lombardi plays 60 games over 2 years, and he's played 62..

Someone please verify.

I believe we received the 4th rounder in 2014 for Lombardi.

Also the 4th that the Leafs sent went to Nashville.

Just curious as to why a $500K signing bonus this far into his contract is unpaid thus far, seeing as he didn't even sign that contract with the Leafs?

That's just how Nashville structured the contract. A lot of players have signing bonuses spread out over multiple seasons.

I knew the cap hit from the bonus was spread out, but I thought that the actual signing bonus dollars were paid in full at a predetermined date in year 1.

Once again, I was wrong.

Capgeek shows $3 mil cap hit for Lombardi
http://www.capgeek.com/coyotes/
So maybe it's just the signing bonus the Leafs ate

That's what I've heard from a few sources.

I have seen some (at least three) reports where it's $2 mil cap hit to the Coyotes, $1.5 mil cap hit to the Leafs. And one report from a Az reporter that said of the $2 mil cap hit, the Coyotes will only have to pay $1.1 mil to Lombardi (probably because of the bonus if that's true).

The point being that the capgeek number may not be accurate yet.
