Lou Will Not Return

I was just thinking about that media push too herman.

Looking at it now, it seems they wanted to take time to craft a new public image for Dubas in the hopes it goes a long way towards convincing more casual fans that he is more than just some nerd with a calculator and pocket protector.

A lot of people in and around the league are just waiting to cut up a computer boy/girl at the first opportunity.

Poor wording by me. Publicly it was Vancouver, and then reported he wouldn't go to Canada.

I'd be curious to see when Demers (I'm assuming that's who you're talking about) publicly stated he didn't want to go to Canada.

Demers sorta confirmed that he nixed a trade to Vancouver, but I don't think he said anything about the entire country.

I could be wrong, but I'm almost certain it was mentioned that privately he didn't like the taxation in Canada.

Eh. I don't think anybody really "reported" that, it was just something that started getting floated on social media. I mean it's certainly possible that that's true, who knows, but it's not the same as publicly stating it (I know you're not the one who said that).

Found this post funny as my bank has employees wear either a golf shirt or a button down shirt with collar, pretty much exactly the type of shirts my pet store dresses their staff in!!!

I confess after writing that I realized that I haven't been in an actual bank branch in a long time. I was really referring to people I know who work in banking.

Although I can still swing that around. Even banks these days are like "Nah, tying some cloth around your neck isn't actually shorthand for trustworthiness and responsibility".
I work in the investment industry. Can confirm they still compare suits.

Does Steve Yzerman have a son we can hire?

Will Lou go to New York before or after the Leafs sign Tavares?

I can't imagine the Leafs would allow him to go before the draft at the very minimum.  Lou would be aware of all the Leafs draft strategies and could make some moves to block what the Leafs are trying to do.  I would hope Shanahan would say he couldn't leave until at least after free agency has started.

No, no, we want Lou to negotiate with Tavares.

"Jonathan. We're going to offer you an 8-year contract with a $7mil AAV because no one individual is above the team. Also, shave your face and be in bed by 10pm tonight ok."

You think the Leafs interviewed him?  I would say zero chance but I also thought there would be zero chance ANYONE would be interested.

I think the Leafs are almost certainly looking to promote from within so I don't think they'd interview anyone but I really don't think you should be surprised that he's emerged as a GM candidate. Leaving aside the closed circle, old boys club of NHL hiring that he's a member of the fact is what happened here was more than 10 years ago and if he's done well regarded work in front offices around the league since then at some point the stink of here was going to wash off. Especially after Burke came here and didn't do a lot better.

He obviously made some bad decisions here but I think we have some pretty good evidence now that at least part of the problem was what he was being asked to do. He did still run some pretty strong drafts, 05 and 06 especially.

I sure would like to know what the holdup is. If Dubas is the supposed GM  what is Shanahan waiting for?  Maybe by committee

If there's one thing Shanahan has proven since he's been here, he does everything on his own timetable and pace.  He'll take as much time as he thinks he needs and won't be influenced by what anyone in the media or around the team is saying. A bit frustrating as a fan because we all want news NOW but he'll do it when he's ready.

Maybe the league wanted them to postpone an announcement until there was a little break in playoff action?  Maybe the Leafs are planning to make it Dubas but think that Hunter is going to leave if it's not him, so they want to keep him away from talking to other teams prior to the draft?

I love that it happened 10 minutes after I posted that we as fans want news NOW.  ;D

Looks like it'll be announced in a matter of days. Surprised Leafs don't hold him until after the draft
