Luke Schenn Traded to Flyers for JVR!!!

Watching jvr in the 2011 playoffs, the guy definitely has another level he can bring even in spite of his mediocre regular season stats

That stands to reason. He's younger and defensemen usually take longer to develop. Outside of some much needed Americanness, I don't see what this adds.

What an absolute dog.

Size, I guess. I don't know. I don't think I want to call this one either way right now. The most I can say about it is that it's a trade that was made.

That's the one thing about this deal; JVR (who I'm not a huge fan of to be honest) has much more upside than Schenn.

That's probably fair. I guess I just feel Schenn is more likely to show serious improvement. I'd say I'm probably luke warm on this one.

You didn't just go there...

I'm just wondering why they're rolling the dice on an injury prone winger...they have those, and with Kadri and Frattin coming onto the scene...

I'm still not understanding why they're screwing around with risky sideways moves that don't address the big huge holes.
It's safe to say that if Burke is done, then the Leafs are in trouble. What this move does do is open up guys like Kadri, Kulemin, Frattin and McArthur to being moved in a deal that might actually fill some of the glaring holes. Kulemin especially is, at least I think so, a semi-attractive player that, if packaged properly, could net the Leafs a pretty decent return.

So, the overall reaction to the trade seems to be a resounding "ehhhhhh..."

I'm pretty much in the same boat.  I will say that, had this happened at the start of last season, I'd have been stoked, since it looked like JVR was primed to break out and Schenn was primed to say "obviously" in interviews a bunch more.  Now, I'd say it's a hockey trade where both teams are rolling the dice on addressing their needs.

It's unlikely that both players will turn into vital cogs in a winning machine, so it's probable that SOMEONE wins this trade outright.  I really have no inkling who that'll be, though.

Younger by like 5 months. Big freakkin dealllll.

Not a huge fan of JVR. But whatever, hopefully the deal helps. Still 1 too many dmen. Plus Lombardi/Mac/Connolly with no real roles on this team now. Gotta turn quantity into quality here. Or just trade them all for Luongo.

Personally, I mean, when I think of a team adding "size" it really has to mean more than just height.

I agree, which is why I wasn't exactly definitive in my statement. I guess, really, what he brings is bigness up front.

Some guys on HF saying that Dregs said JVR can play centre and that Carlyle will probably put him there. Lupul-JVR-Kessel? No real playmaker there though.

I guess. We already had Colborne if we needed a tall, ineffectual presence though.

I take it you're neither a fan of Colbourne or JVR. Bummer.

I think Nik is right on the verge of becoming an Islanders fan... He likes what they are doing.

No kidding! Bad couple of days for him for sure.

Height really though right?  I mean, he's 23 and 6'3 and 200.  That's a little lanky?

Does he play big?

I really do wonder what it's like when the people running your favourite team aren't complete and total clown shoes. I guess it'd gets boring after a while and pretty soon you'd start hoping Pavel Datsyuk gets traded for two tractors and a subscription to Vanity Fair so you'd have something to talk about.
