Luke Schenn Traded to Flyers for JVR!!!

I'm siding with Busta in my analysis and saying "it's a trade that happened."

You've got to figure, though, given the Leafs luck, that Schenn becomes the next Pronger in Philly, or at least close to it, while JVR essentially is another MacArthur.

Interesting to compare how many defended any criticism of Luke Schenn v.s. disappointment he's gone.  Think rationally, most people realized the Leafs still have 6 D-men without dipping into the Marlies.  (Yeah more ice-time for Komisarek :)

Now that they have a big LW, does Kulemin go?

I think JVR instantly becomes our fourth best forward behind Kessel, Grabbo and Lupul. Time will tell for sure, but I think his ceiling is higher than Schenn's.

I tentatively like this deal, if for nothing else than a much-needed skill shakeup up front.

I figure that that seems to be par for the course when it comes to Toronto giving up young talent. That being said, Schenn's shot is so poor I really don't see how he ever eclipses the 30 point plateau. Personally I have no problems with the swap, but I'm also a guy who thought Jeff O'Neil was going to score 45 goals when he was acquired...

Im all for trading Schenn, but Ruh-Roh

I'm not exactly pleased with this deal, pretty meh, doesn't solve anything. While you could argue JVR has higher upside, he also has far more question marks than Schenn, who could still develop into a stud shutdown guy.

All I can say right now is that if JVR coming spells the end for Kulemin it's a big, big mistake.

Meh, Schenn never really impressed me outside of his rookie year, and even then he was solid but not spectacular.

He'd throw the occasional big hit but made many mistakes that were costly and his skating was subpar (so much for Barb Underhill I guess).

By the end of the season he was 3rd pairing with no PP time.

JVR has had issues but has lots of skills needed to play at this level (averaged 46 pts last year over 82 GP). Got the feeling he had less opportunities early on with the talent Philly has and combined with the injuries things never got going.

He'll have huge opportunities here on the first or 2nd line as well as the PP. I think this trade makes a lot of sense for both teams really, and think that Philly has taken more of the risk in this deal.

I wasn't huge on giving up on Schenn, but you can't turn down this trade. JVR has shown way more upside than Schenn. Schenn is just too slow to be a difference maker in this league. He can still be a good bottom pairing dman, but I can't see him being a shutdown guy.

It's very amusing reading thread. The Burke of this forum being critical of Burke.

Although I joke about Komisarek's increased ice-time.  I remember looking at the stats between him and Schenn.  It wasn't as big of a stretch as some would hope.  The forwards are in much worst shape.  Based on positional needs, the Leafs did okay by this deal.

Lupul/Lombardi/Van Riemsdyk.  If you're a forward on the Marlies, you've gotta love the direction this team is heading.

I'm hoping this deal has nothing to do with Kulemin.  IMHO, Kulemin's our best defensive winger. I dont think JVR is going to supplant Kulemin in that respect.

I haven't seen it mentioned yet in this thread but one thing that struck me about Schenn is/was how absolutely terrible his shot from the point is/was.

Not sure I've seen something that bad at the NHL level.....ever.

I for one liked Schenn and thought mgmt. rushed him into the bigs when he should have stayed in Kelowna to develop. But, the leafs really sucked at the time and even a few of these posters would have made the team. I think this trade will come back and bite us in the arse. too bad, now we have a bus load of puck moving D-men and no big bodies to do the truculance thing. I?ll recieve heat from this but, for a bunch of fans it?s just that you have to fire the coach or trade every player every time a player makes a mistake. confused is a polite way to say, there isn?t as many know it all on this sight that I thought there was. certainly lots of very knowledgeable hockey minds but way more knee jerks who really like to hear them selves talk.

We move on and hope that JVR will prove me different and help take us to the playoffs. AC out.

6 more years of JVR vs. 4 more years of Schenn. I suppose there's some value to two additional years too.

You know, if you stare at it long enough, you'll see a sailboat.
