Luongo

This confirmed what I was thinking this morning after I saw Dregers tweet last night that FLA may now be the front runners in the Luongo sweepstakes...

#SNdraft #Panthers Luongo interest remains lukewarm at best. Unlikely FLA will take on next 6 yrs @ 6.7M per. #Leafs remain logical choice

I'm wondering, does anyone think that Morgan Rielly was selected, being a Vancouver native, with the hopes of flipping him along with a crappy contract (Komi??) to Vancouver for Luongo?

If that were the case, the Leafs would have just moved the pick as part of the deal instead. Rielly was selected because Burke and the scouting staff felt he was the best player available.

Yeah. I don't think one is connected to the other. Rielly could very well be trade bait once he's signed, especially if the rumours about Schultz wanting to come to TO are true.

TSNBobMcKenzie: FLA and TOR likely 2 most interested teams in Luongo but believe price is too steep. VAN says things are progressing but seem in no rush.

So, in other words, nothing new to report.

Pretty much. Basically, if you're expecting a Luongo deal to be made this weekend, expect to be disappointed.

That appears to be the general consensus.  Can't imagine Gillis wanting to sign Schneider before dealing with Luongo, but that very well may be the case. The stumbling block appears to be Vancouvers refusal to take back one of the Leafs bad contracts. Probably Komisariks.

I can. In fact, I've been saying all along that getting Schneider under contract is pretty much a pre-requisite for a Luongo deal. There's just too much potential for them to end up with neither of them for the 13/14 season. They basically can't move Luongo until they know what's going on with Schneider.

Yeah. I suppose that true.

Quotes From Mirtle http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/leafs-beat/brian-burke-still-has-work-to-do-especially-on-luongo/article4367088/

Burke: ?From my perspective, the prices that are being asked have to be reasonable,? Burke said. ?If you can get a goaltender who makes you better, and it costs you 15 first-round picks, would you do it? No.

So somewhere between 15 first-round picks and something that makes sense, we?re not there yet. I?m not going to overpay to upgrade at that position. I?m not happy with what?s being asked. From my perspective, rather than strip your organization to fill one positional need, we?ll go with what we have.?

Gillis: ?In my mind, there?s probably 15 legitimate No. 1 goalies in the world and he?s one of them,? Gillis said of Luongo. ?Contrary to what people may think or describe, there?s a tremendous amount of interest in players that are high-end players in this league. Finding a fit is occasionally more challenging, but there?s definitely a fit to be found.

It hasn?t been close for me. I?m the problem. This is a significant consideration for our organization, it?s not going to be done lightly. It?s not going to be done in a hurry.?

If I didn't know any better I would think those were two people on hfboards arguing. Key point is Luongo isn't happening.

Anyone read that Cox article suggesting the Leafs make an offer sheet to Schneider?  Is he nuts?  How many first round picks would we have to give up to get him, and then what if he's not the guy ?

4 first round picks if they went with Cox's lame brained idea. I mean, come on what the fudge...? Which players out there are worth four 1st round picks?  I can't think of many at all.

The Star hockey guys have been writing stuff that convinces me they do mushrooms together at the office all day.

Feschuk's latest piece is pathetic.

Cox is suggesting the Leafs offer sheet Vancouver as a tactic to force Vancouver's hand at dealing Luongo, not to actually get Schneider.

The offer Cox suggested, if the Canucks accepted, could get them four 1st rounders as compensation, and we'd have an unproven goalie to a long, expensive contract.
