Luongo

The thing is, I think there is more truth in Burke going with Scrivens and Reimer, than there is Gillis going with Schneider and a disgruntled Luongo in nets. Gillis needs to drop the asking price or all of his already limited options might bail on him.

Gillis could be stubborn enough to let this go on into the season... Which is fine, let him.

I believe they call that pulling a Murray, going all the way to training camp with Heatley.

Gillis and Howson should clean out their garages this summer and hold a yard sale together.

Wooden broom with broken handle- $18.50 (reduced price)
Old hockey pucks $9.50 ea.
ALL VHS tapes- $25 ea.
30" B&W television set (still works!) $65

Apparently Luongo has refused to lift his NMC to go to Toronto.  So, assuming this is true, what is plan B??  Imagine if Luongo's plan (if true) backfires and Florida doesn't want him, and he ends up in Toronto after fans get an earful of his refusal to come initially?  He's going to get the waffle treatment before he plays his first game!  ;D

Roberto Luongo is trying to take his talents to South Beach.

The Vancouver Canucks goaltender has refused to waive his no-trade clause for deals that would see him shipped to the Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks, according to Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Post-Dispatch.

"Told by very good source #Canucks G Roberto Luongo has -- to this point -- declined to waive no-trade clause to go to #Blackhawks or #Leafs," Portzline tweeted Monday. "Luongo using the power of his no-trade to 'steer' a trade to #Panthers as much as possible at this point in off-season."

If this is true...ouch.

Hasn't the Columbus Post-Dispatch been responsible for some iffy Nash rumours lately too?

Not sure I'm buying that till it comes from Bobby Mac or the like.

Yeah, and McKenzine, LeBrun et al pretty much debunked this earlier today.

Bob Mackenzie said that the reports of him not waiving his NTC are somewhat early.  He surmises that Luongo's first choice is Florida, so the Canucks are trying to work out a deal there first.  If that falls through the discussion will turn more to the Leafs and other teams that may be interested.

Isn't this the same source that claims NYI offered all of their draft choices to CBJ for the second pick overall?

I'm a Little confused. Didn't luongo demand a trade from the panthers originally? Why would he want to go back there now?

That's what I was asking before.  They are sort of on the rise but just as FLA sqeaked in this year into the playoffs, they could easily be on the outside looking in again next year.  I can't see him wanting to go to a team like that unless he wants his career to die a slow, boring death.

I am not certain that he did. I may be wrong but I seem to recall that he had just married a Florida girl, built a mansion and really did not want to be traded.

I don't remember any trade demands either. I recall that he was headed towards UFA in a year, and they weren't close on signing.  Panthers also changed owners a few times between then and now and it was likely also tied to one of those situations.

Memory might be playing tricks on me - but that's what I remember, that he asked to be moved to a contender because he was tired of missing the playoffs... but I guess that's not the case...

I saw this in wikipedia - I found one part amusing:

On April 13, 2006, Luongo became the winningest Panthers goaltender of all-time, passing Vanbiesbrouck, with his 107th win with the team ? a 5?4 overtime victory against the Ottawa Senators. He went on to post 35 wins, breaking Vanbiesbrouck's 27-win single-season Panthers mark, set in 1996?97. Set to become a free agent for the second consecutive off-season, he could not come to an agreement with the Panthers, having formally turned down a five-year, $30 million contract offer in January 2006. It was also reported that among Luongo's demands were that backup goaltender Jamie McLennan be re-signed, his long-time goaltending coach Fran?ois Allaire be hired and that a public statement be released that he would not be traded until the no-trade clause of his contract took effect.

Interesting that Bob McKenzie et al on TSN are dismissing reports of Luongo refusing to waive for anyone but Florida, but SportsNet is reporting it as 'fact'.
