Question: Is Gillis becoming "the face" of his franchise? Just something that popped into my El Dorado 12 saturated brain.

Ooh that stuff is good. I have to buy a bottle today, thanks for the reminder ;)

One of my favs.

Mount Gay Extra Old is my fav but it is a tad pricey. That 12 yr El Dorado is prob the best deal for the quality.

MGXO started it all for me. Rum is also a passion of mine. If you're into it too, check out ministryofrum.com  - It's another forum I frequent.

I picture Gillis sitting in his office during that whole thing with the Sedins, and when he heard it he was like:

"TAMPERING!!! OHH OHH THAT'S TAMPERING!!! YOU HEARD IT RIGHT? THE TAMPERING? THAT'S TAMPERING, IT'S TAMPERING! Oh I am soooooo telling...."

Hahaha....that's quite the visual.  It certainly reflects my opinion of Gillis and Vancouver sports media in general as well.

Can Vancouver afford to buy out Luongo's contract? Thats a lot of money to just fork out.

That would be awesome. After all of Gillis's tough talk about not giving away Luongo for nothing they get 0 for him.

I think the Luongo deal is dead based on the Mike Gillis interview.  He really thinks he can get some good players in return for that horrible contract and won't trade him until some moron team gives him what he wants.  Its basically like what columbus was trying to do, with the exception of not caving in the summer.

Boozing forums, that's awesome.

Do the conversations get out of hand like around 10pm?  Lots of angry emoticons...then smiley kiss and make up emoticons...people disappear in the middle of a post, pass out...don't remember the posts they made last night, and all apologetic the next morning.

which is why Gillis would rather have an overpriced back up goalie then deal him for nothing.

That sounds like a college date.

On HNIC, before the bad game last night, they reported that the price the Canucks were asking for Luongo had fallen from a player, prospect & pick to a player and a pick. (which is still a deal I would never do if I were the Leafs).

Maybe what i'm about to ask has been entertained in this thread:

The time for this roster to have a good shot at winning is pretty close to now. Their top line is 31-32. Kesler's going to wear out faster because of the way he players. So I wondered if Vancouver had considered moving Schneider. Luongo over the next 2-3 years is probably capable of winning behind a good team. And before last night, they could have commanded a great return for Schneider - maybe/arguably more than what they were asking for Luongo. And Schneider suddenly isn't a bum because of one game.

Had to be a tough games to watch for Gillis: the guy he's handing the #1 job to gets lit up while rumored Luongo compensation, Kadri & Bozak, score and star and the Leafs goaltending by Scrivens results in HNIC naming him first star of the game.

I'm delighted with last nights results, but I still see a need to acquire a goalie like Luongo. I would trade Bozak and a 2nd for him today.

And that makes most of us around here glad your not GM. ;D

We'll see what most of us around here think when the goaltending starts to struggle.

Corey Schneider has not looked great this season and last night was just a continuation of his struggles.  His stat line during the lockout for Ambri Piotta was 3.22 .914 in 8 games.  I watched him a bit at the Spengler Cup in the semi-final game against Canada as well for Fribourg Gotteron and he was 3.34 .876 in the tourney.  That game in particular he was pulled in the third period after allowing 4 goals.  He didn't look good at all in that game.  I remember I said going into that game that Schneider has the potential to steal this from Canada.

It won't change Luongo's contract details, age or the fact that he's overrated (good but not great).

I think what you'll see is most of the opinions on Luongo are independent of the Leafs' goaltenders performances. On top of that, if they do suck, that means the team likely gets another high pick and maybe ends up with someone like MacKinnon, Drouin or Barkov - so, it's almost win-win.

or get a starter via UFA

or trades for someone else who might be more reasonable to try to avoid the longer term crippling cap baggage Luongo's contract brings

Or, maybe Rynnas or Owuya emerge as legit NHL starters. Either way, Luongo is just not that appealing an option.
