Luongo

I heard about this Gillis interview.  So if it's not Florida or Toronto, then who?  Speculation?

"Gillis says he has trade in place for Luongo re @rcamcole barring some shoes to drop and I can confirm deal he talks about isn't with Leafs."

I hope we didn't let a big opportunity pass us by. I know his contract sucked, but he certainly could have taken this team to the next level of compete.

...froggy went a courtin' and he did ride, sword and annoy level by his side, uh huh...

The Luongo trade, or nontrade, which has taken on a life of its own with the way Schneider started the season (five goals on 14 shots before being pulled Saturday), could happen soon, or in a month, or not at all.

"We have a potential deal in place with one team that has to do something with another player that they have - and it's not who anybody thinks it is - and so we have to wait. (But) we've been offered packages that don't fit what our plan is, what we need," said Gillis.

Like, how? "Excess salary coming back with a (throw-in) player who can't play in our line-up. They say, 'OK, we'll do this, but you've got to take this.' Well, we're not taking it. We've had lots of proposals like that with good pieces that can help us but the other part doesn't help us, and oftentimes they have term attached to them, so we'd just be turning around and buying out a guy.

"I'd rather keep the guy we know, who's a good person."

That Luongo has been a prince through this whole trade/no-trade fiasco goes without saying, but Gillis said it anyway.

"We have a really good player here who brings a tremendous amount to the team, his professionalism, his willingness to work - he's the kind of player that changes the culture on a team and shows players what it means to be an elite-level player," he said.

If that sounds like a sales pitch, it probably is. It's also, quite possibly, true.

The above seems to be what Simmons is referring to.

For the good of his team in their current situation, Gillis should probably shut up. If Schneider continues to falter ...

The reporter in question is Cam Cole of the Vancouver Sun, I don't know anything about him.  On a scale of 1-10 Eklunds, where 1 is the least reliable and 10 being the most reliable where does he rate?

I haven't heard the Devils rumours before - so there's another team to think about.

Maybe there's something to the Philly rumor - and it hinges on Philly being able to unload Bryzgalov (which may be even tougher than trading Luongo)

Maybe one of these teams:
Detroit
Chicago
New Jersey
Florida
Edmonton
Islanders
Columbus

But I can see difficulty with every one of them trying to take on Luongo's contract

Mike Gillis is awesome.  Recently complains that the Toronto media is trying to influence the Luongo trade, then a few days later has an interview with a Vancouver reporter where he tries to influence the Luongo trade.

He's done it twice since he complained, no?

Step 3: file tampering charges.

The HC @noon crew were talking about WASH having some possible interest as well.

How crazy/rich is Snider?

The only answer to this question is Bryzgalov.

That contract is explanation enough.

I'm tired of Gillis. For once I'd like to see a club hamstrung by one of these idiot contracts, even if it means he has to buy Luongo out next year and get nothing in return. If someone is fool enough to deal for him, they get what they deserve when / if Luongo retires at 37.

That'll look good after all the talk about many teams interested in Luongo and he ends up getting squat.
