Looks like somebody is trying to make a statement.
Wonder if there's anything there with Schneider and the pressure to perform? I'm 100% speculating, but I would assume there's huge pressure on Schneider to cement his #1 status since all the talk has been about trading Luongo. Maybe it's an uncomfortable situation for him?
I believe so, I mean like our young goalies and the pressure that surround them to perform, Scheider is also bathing in this. It is one thing to perform well as a backup behind Luongo but quite another thing to be given the keys to the Porsche. We tend to downplay the immense pressure and mental aspect when evaluating our young goalies and when they have issues we just say well, they are not good goaltenders. Who is to say a guy like Reimer or Scrivens would not have performed just as well as Schneider backing up a guy like Luongo while being acclimated to the NHL, rather than to be just thrust into the #1 position in the insanity that is Leaf Nation. I mean look at Reimer spelling the vet Giguere in a lower pressure role during his first and successful taste of the NHL. He wasn't told he was the number 1 so the pressure was drastically less apparent. We need to understand this and realize it also happens in other markets. Development takes time right and there are extenuating factors that can take hold.
Having said that Schneider was awful during the lockout in Europe as well. This may have been building within him as soon as he signed that contract and was told he was the guy.
