Maple Leafs @ Penguins - Nov. 26th, 7:00pm - CBC, Fan 590

Bunting just made a great shot from Matthews look ordinary.  What an individual effort to create that play

He's obviously not everything he once was but I'd still say about 5 or 6 times a night Giordano does something that just strikes me as exceptionally smart. What a solid finish to a really good career he's having.

Really good win over a pretty good team tonight.

The Leafs were 4-4-2 in their first 10 games culminating in an awful West Coast road trip.  They scored 4 goals once in that stretch and got outscored 27-30.

Since then the Leafs are 9-1-3.  They have scored 4 goals or more 5 times in that stretch and have outscored their opponent 42-29.

And getting it done without Matthews being a one man band. It's been a very impressive stretch.

Gotta say, I still can?t believe some people were shouting about how expendable Nylander was because Kapanen had two good shifts with Matthews one week.

I'm with you. I claimed I'd rather have Nylander than Marner. I think I still stick with that.

I?d say that only because of cap hit. You can get two almost-Nylanders for that price, but if Marner is on, the Leafs are pretty hard to beat.

So I double checked my offseason hype for Holmberg. I was mentally pencilling him in for Johnsson-like duty as a utility forechecking/defensive winger in the middle six to ease him into the league.

I underestimated the Leafs? need for a centre (Evan Rodrigues right there back then), and underestimated Holmberg?s adjustment to NHL ice. He?s a mini Kampf. Let him run free with Robertson and Malgin.

For sure, but it's my unconditional love for Nylander that blinds my objective thinking.

Did I see Matthews fan on the puck before dishing it to Nylander?

How many laser wristers have you seen him unload this year?

I saw one tonight!

Glad to be made a fool of.  But I still think his wrist isn't 100%.

I think something is up too, but great to see him snipe one tonight. Maybe something WAS up.

Am I the only one that?s going to stand up for Marner? Lol. I think Marner plays a bigger role in being a driver of success for this team. And is a better more rounded player. I like Nylander but he?s a distant runner up to Mitch. There. 1 for team Marner . :)

Love how all the forwards seem to have bought into team defence. Maybe they had a wake up call with all the injuries on D but whatever it is I hope they carry this attitude throughout the season and into the playoffs. This is how you win.
